Other ways Neo can make money besides premium

Fri Dec 17, 2004 4:42 am

Ok I'd really hate it if neo turns into the current runescape p2p so I collected some ideas to make money besides premium boards and super buffs:

Edit: Some of these things are enhancements or add-ons and should not replace anything.
Make neopets players actually pay real $$$ for ads like the noticeboard onsite like to advertise a guild or shop(its better then looney toons).

Use real $$$ to buy dubloons $1 for 1 dubloon sounds good.

Use real $$$ to increase shop size.

A money tree reserved for those who pay (who uses the money tree anyways)

Use real $$$ to get into the staff guild :P

Free garlic bread halves for $1.50

Webhosting and image storing on neopets servers.

Other small ups can be:

Quickstock or hold 60 items more.

Free pizza (any kind of free ones) to those who pay for pizza delivery service.

Pay to moderate topics on the Jellyworldboards...
Any other ideas to avoid a p2p neopets?

Couldn't help but notice that all of your suggestions ARE a pay to play system EXACTLY like runescape.

There is a basic game and then superior parts only made available to those who can pay. If only those who paid were able to increase shop size, what major effect do you think that would have on your average user?

Okay, lets try and work this out... Paying for stuff doesn't really work out. Members Only Items are a major jiff, everyone hates them. Premium can and should work, if done right. You can have PRemium Members having slight benefits, but nothing that will make other people overly jealous or angry.

Use real $$$ to increase shop size.

:roflol: sorry, but I can see so many problems in this it's scary. How would this work out? Free to open shop, then $0.50 for the first upgrade + 50 extra cents for every next upgrade?

I'm on size 20 and I would NOT be willing to pay $30000 just to get to shop size 100. And if money increments didn't happen, you would have rich snobby kids with size 50000 shops, but nothing to put in them. NO, I would NOT like to pay to increase shop size.

Make neopets players actually pay real $$$ for ads like the noticeboard onsite like to advertise a guild or shop(its better then looney toons).

The poor noticeboard would be emptier than some of TNT's promises.

Free garlic bread halves for $1

I'm hoping that was a joke.

Paying for Dubloons would also be kinda crap.

There were however a few good points made here. Premium Members should get the following benefits:

Quickstock or hold 60 items more.

Maybe make that 100?

Webhosting and image storing on neopets servers.

I think that Neo had something similar to that before. It was called Neodrives, I think. But Premium Members should get an allocated amount of server space to host their images on.

A money tree reserved for those who pay (who uses the money tree anyways)

Thats also a possibility, although I don't know how many Premium Members would donate to this tree, or how many would feel so happy after picking up a Piece of Wool, or an Old Boot.

A big thing TNT might do if they were desperate, would be to allow Premium Members to have 5 pets. I don't really see too much of a problem with this to tell the truth. Most people don't have 4 pets anyway, and missing out on an extra one will not break anyone's heart.

Maybe Premium Users could also get the option to switch off Random Events. And to prevent 'cheating' (i.e. turning off REs whilst doing something important, then turning them back on), TNT could make a lock so that if you turn off REs, you cannot turn them on for 24hours, and visa versa.

Heck, even giving Premium Members the chance to go into a 'Lottery' to win one of those rare 2% discount cards could be a possibilty.

There are plenty of things TNT can do to give Premium Members a feeling that they are not wasting their money on crap, but also not giving them major avdvantages, like on Runescape.

Remember that all this comes from a person who does not pay for Premium

Make neopets players actually pay real $$$ for ads like the noticeboard onsite like to advertise a guild or shop(its better then looney toons).

No. That would be totally unfair. If you don't want to pay real money then your shop or guild doesn't get advertised?

Use real $$$ to buy dubloons $1 for 1 dubloon sounds good.

A dollar for a dubloon. A dollar for a dubloon? Ha. So I'd have to pay $4 to train my pet one level? Yeah, right.

Use real $$$ to increase shop size.

Ha. Pay real money to increase your shop size? So if you do not have money, you will only be able to have five items in your shop at once? If they did this, I wouldn't be able to restock anymore.

A money tree reserved for those who pay (who uses the money tree anyways)

I use the money tree. You actually do get a lot of profits from it, if you are patient enough. Once I even got a Starry Paint Brush from it. And, besides, if there was a Premium only money tree, who'd donate to it anyways?

Use real $$$ to get into the staff guild :P

Like the staff would even chat there? Besides, what would they do in the guild? Give out secret information about plots or wars? PPT would've known it by then. 8)

Free garlic bread halves for $1

Bub, it's not free if it costs a dollar. Besides, which would I rather do: play Dice-A-Roo and maybe spend 100 NP and get a Garlic Bread Halves for that or pay a dollar?

Webhosting and image storing on neopets servers.

Bub, I have photobucket for that.

Quickstock or hold 60 items more.

You can hold as many items as you want. That's just the recommended number.

Free pizza (any kind of free ones) to those who pay for pizza delivery service.

Free pizza? Why would I want pizza when I have my trusty omelettes?

Pay to moderate topics on the neoboards...

Ha. Do you know how much chaos this would make? I would be frozen by now. So many people on the boards have grudges against me, and some people could be worse than TNT and sit around and freeze others for fun!

That, or they could press the Mullet button. 8)

Well, that's my two cents.

Fri Dec 17, 2004 6:55 am

Hehe, o_0, you amuse me.

Pssst, say Ha or Bub again. Its the best part.

Fri Dec 17, 2004 7:59 am

I don't actually mind a neopian shop ad (paid by a neopian) to replace the giant advertisements on top of each page.

5 pets would just be unfair to f2p members.

You can either buy dubloons if you want to or not. There's the same thing in powerpets except its like a-harder-to-get-then-nerkmid currency.

If a dollar for a dubloon was in then there would be deflation. Who makes money off selling dubloons.

 Why wouldn't the cove restockers just buy more dubloons with the money they make from selling the items? And if the rich newbies did not know what the shop wizard was, I doubt they would have Premium.

Aw, thanks, Val. :P
