Neoboard Horror Stories. O_o

Sat Dec 18, 2004 8:50 pm

Have an interesting Neoboard Horror story you'd like to share? I just had a doozie a few minutes ago.

I ran across a board in the Avatar chat where a person had just had their account accessed by someone else, who pounded a pet of theirs. They were freaking out...

Being the person I am (a sucker who hates seeing people get scammed), I ran to the board to try to help that person and advise them what to do to take care of the security breach.

I made a list of what they should do...

1. Change their password fast!
2. Clear cookies
3. Change password on the email tied into the account.
4. Change the "hint question" on the email.

Now I'm a good person...I try to help others when I can. I visit the avatar boards often, and I use the avatar collector avatar. Most people in there who know me would know I'd never do a THING to anyone else. This person had no clue what steps to take to protect the rest of their account.

But then, I get told by some bystander "I'm being reported, because it is AGAINST THE RULES to tell someone to change their password."

Anyone have any horror stories of thier own to tell?

Side note: I really, truely think that TNT should send you an email whenever someone files a report on you. They could block out the reporter's name, but leave the message as to the infringment....that would really help people who get reported know what is going on, and perhaps make people think twice about what they report over.

Sheesh......

Well, the neoboards are a horror story in themselves :D But I can think of something that happened once...
Story 1:
I went on the avatar chat board, and was looking for a conversation to join. I thought I could try the Smoothie Grill, seeing as I'd just got enough avatars to join the chat. I asked politely if I could join in, and I was swamped with "you cant cmoe in our supeh avveh chat!!!" and "n0ob" and stuff like that... It put me off the avatar board for a while...
Story 2:
I was some the avatar board again (stupidly) and I saw this person who was starting up a new avatar chat group. I joined them, and I was chatting, they were really nice, and suddenly, all these "fried peas" or whatever, started saying "u copied r group!!111" and "just because ur a New Member and u couldn't join teh fried peas, dont copy us!!11!" Well go off to your Fried Peas board if it's so much better :D
I don't really go on the boards anymore :D

You know, I hang out in avatar chat all the time...but I always avoid the "fried peas" "oven baked olives" "deep fried onions" "super duper smoothies" or whatever boards. :P I'm just not into that stuff...I find it kind of silly and childish anyhow. The whole idea behind it is very "heard mentality" anyhow..."OMG! Lyk u can not be a fried pea, you were an olive, lyk OMG!!!!1!1"

Different strokes for different folks...*shrug* Just not for me. Sorry they treated you rudely, but I guess it's for the better. :P I'm sure you aren't crying softly into your pillow every night because they wouldn't let you be a "stuffed jalepeno" right? ;) Their loss.

Hmm... letsee,

I started an avatar simon game, and after a few rounds, with not many people getting strikes. I started using some of my rarer/retired avatars. Then, one of the newer members in that game started saying: "Thats not fair! I dont have any cause I'm new!" and I politely said: "Well, I'm sorry if you dont have some of them, I'll try to post just rare, but not retired avatars"

And after a while, I had to post another retired one, because the people in that group were so good that I was running out. :P And the same person said "Hey! I thought you werent gonna post retired ones! Just cause I'm new doesnt mean I'm a New Member! I'm gonna report you!"

And well, the person quit and we finished the game. He might've said something similar, something like that, I dont remember fully. Anywho, I dont play avvie simon anymore. That person might've used some chat speak, but from what I remember, he was a fair speller. =\

I thought it'd be interesting to see what all the fuss about these avatar chat groups is... turns out they're just sad little boards where people add "eh" to everything -
meh 0st, welcome to teh spiffeh avveh board!!!

It's really quite annoying when people talk like that

;) Fried Peas and all the other "avatar chats" are just posers. The real one is CTTM/EACC. If you want to find some place to chat about avatars, come there. :P The type of people that chat there are the type of people at PPT.

Now, for horror stories.

So...
I was at the avatar chat where someone made a board with an inappopriate name. :o I told them that they were reported and I got frozen. :o:o:o

I was at another board about Hurricane Frances. I told them that they were reported for spamming (because they kept bumping) and they got all their friends to come and report me for false reporting. :o I got a warning for using profanity when I didn't.o_o

Yeseh iteh iseh! :P

Anywho, why do people even type chat talk? I mean, an occasional ur or an abbreviation is fine, but it doesnt really save that much time! It might seem like that, but once I took (literally) 5 minutes just to decode a message from chat talk once. O.o

CTTM/EACC won't let me join :( I have no idea why but I just get ignored then dissed... That's another horror story :(

I go on the bdome boards alot, mostly lurking, and have no horror stories. But it seems like people in the BDC are right AC people are idiots.

Sat Dec 18, 2004 9:20 pm

Fried Peas? Smoothie Grill??
Yeah, you lost me here.
I guess you can tell I don't go to the neoboards. And for good reason. :) .

Sat Dec 18, 2004 9:22 pm

Ooh, once, I FELL for a scam...

One of those, "Fill out this neopets cheat form, to get paintbrushes and neopoints' Things..

I gave my password, email.. even my adress, thinking I would be rich.. THen I lost my account, and email address..

True horror story.. Or, tale of stupidity..

Hmm.. Another one, too. A friend of mine, as we'd been in a fight, she'd entered my account, gave away all my items, and donated all my np, and even pounded my pets..

Then, she ruined my lookup, and everything.

Never trust ANYONE but yourself with your pw..

I REALLY don't get the point of these "club" chat boards. Doesn't a guild defeat the whole purpose of that? With a guild, you can even keep users out if you wanted...

:o Smoothie Grill and Fried Peas are two avatar chat groups. Who copied ours. ;)

I think the purpose is, even if you already have a guild, you can go chat to other avatar collectors and stuff... I mean, you can join as many chat groups as you want, but you can only join 1 guild.

Sat Dec 18, 2004 9:47 pm

Yes, we do have a guild. But not everyone wants to be in it; they want to be in other guilds.

Oh, and I have warned the members of EACC not to continue to be mean to people who aren't spamming/scamming or breaking the rules when they come to our board.
