Selling unbuyables: Strategy

Sat Jan 01, 2005 1:50 pm

Does anyone have a strategy they would like to share on selling unbuyables? Thanks.

I think if you have a hard to sell unbuyable you must be prepared to do some work. I once found a tuskaninny plant or something and i remember that i had to look up people on the shop wizard to see who were serious collectors and then slip them a neomail stating that i had a garden item that i was looking to sell, i also sold it off at much cheaper than the prices on the trades.

i once had a pirate paint brush, and i was so stupid to sell it for 99,999 NP :P

i was a newer member and got it from Jacko the random PB giver, it was shortly after the Pirate PB was released to public :(

Hehe, I bought a pirate petpet paint brush for 99,999NP :P

Then I sold it!

Trick is, I think, is to sell it for about 5-10% (Depending on how much people want the item) less than the lowest price on the Trading Post.

For exampe:
Battledome Items: If its good, people will want it alot
Rare Gardening Items: I dont think people will want it alot
Avatar Items: People will want it alot
Paintbrushes: People will want it alot

Sometimes you should auction them. But make the starting price the lowest price that you will accept. One time my friend got a halloween paint brush, and auctioned it for 1np. Not just for her neofriends, but for the whole world... She didn't make very much of a profit.

Patience is the best trait to get full price.

It depends on the unbuyable. Any just released item that is rarity 94 and lower will quickly go down in price. Anything above that rarity will usually stay above 100K.

Once I got a just released negg from the Snow Faerie (way back when she gave out the good stuff)--I knew the price would drop within a day or so. So, I looked up negg galleries on the shop wiz, wrote to each of them about my negg and put it in my shop for 99999. It was quickly purchased and a few people even thanked me for bringing it to their attention (as there was no mention of it in the news). A year and a half later, it now sells for about 9,000.

So, writing people who collect that particular unbuyable can pay off.

If you need a quick sale, price it at 99,999. If you are willing to wait a bit, check out the trades/auctions and price it a bit lower than the lowest price shown.

well, people don't always want painbrushes, that's why so many are in trades. The way that I sell unbuyables, if it's 500k or up, and I got it for like 50k, I would put it up for auction from 300k-800k, if it's really hard to sell. For the ones 150k-500k, I make posts on the trades and auction chat boards. anything less than 150k, should just be sold for 99,999 nps, unless you are going to lose money, then just advertise in chat boards again.
For battledome items, post on battledome chat board(on neopets)

For avartar items post on avatar chat board

for paint brush (depending on which ones) post on avatar or trade boards.

hope this helps

I disagree. I think pbs are one of the easiest things to sell--much, much easier than gourmet food or plushies or limitied edition t-shirts.

Why sell a PB for 99999 when if you wait a few days you can sell it for 150K. That's a 50K loss in profit, which doesn't make sense to me. I have never, ever had a problem selling a PB--but ask me about my gourmet food or my pink flosset t-shirt?
