Neopets System of Measurement?

Sat Jan 08, 2005 12:21 am

There was previously a topic about how the Lenny Conundrum was in pounds and feet and whatnot, but it was locked before I got the chance to respond.

I was going to state that I think Neopets should have its own form of measurement to avoid confusion. It would take some time to work up, but it would be pretty cool. It does have Neopoints, why not Neolengths?

Also, does anyone think that there should be other forms of money? Rather than paying 1K in Neopoints for something, you could pay with a 1K NP coin. They can be used as items, but you can cash it into the bank.
If this does happen, wouldn't it also make sense to have Neochecks, or Neocredit? It would help restockers to use a credit card which takes money out of the bank. You could also give Neochecks to other players for donations or gifts.

Anyone else like my ideas? Discuss them here. ^^;

Nice ideas about the neo cheques ect. But I'm not sure how it would make things easyer...

Then again. Restockwise. Maybe it could make things too much easyer. As in, no one will carry neopoints with them on hand anymore. So none will be stolen... Or something...

Dunno about neo lengths. Maybe they just need to be clearer. Or Adam needs to think up better thought out lenny conundrums ;)

The last thing the site needs to do is make the most profitable thing easier to exploit. I think a checking account or whatnot would be largely a waste,

I'll point out that the old thread was locked with a reason. And if this thread goes anywhere near the way of the old thread, this one will be locked instantly.

let's put it this way,

1 pound = about 2 real-life ounces.

;) Right... let's make it easier for scammers to transfer NP... :)

Neopets system of measurement would make me confused. If you don't know how to change inches to centimetres, or vice versa, get a calculator and Google how to.

Sat Jan 08, 2005 1:35 am

Yeah, type like "X inch to feet" on Google for a quick conversion. Or you could just bookmark an unit converter and just use it when needed. :)

The idea of Neo's own form of measurement would make more trouble with measurements, in my opinion. Neo would have to base it on the existing offical measurements, which means you still has to compare with a known measurement. That would make it more complicated than it is currently.

I'm :| with the neocheck idea. I don't see how it would be very useful, though.

The thing is, you wouldn't need to, since it's all in Neomeasure (I'm just making up lengths with variations of "Neo"). For instance:

We start out with a Neocent, which would be equivilent to an inch or centemeter.

10 Neocents to a Neopent, like a foot or decameter.
10 Neopents to a Neodec (100 Neocents), which would represent a yard or meter.
10 Neodecs to a Neoacre (1000 Neocents), which would obviously be like an acre .
10 Neoacres to a Neokay (10,000 Neocents), something like a mile or kilometer.

Pretty simple, right?

typical, many complainst about easy conundrems (i seem to remember the prize for the last one being about 100np..) they make it harder and boom, complaing again, seriously, it isnt even that hard to find a conversion chart (being a fairly old resident of the UK i was taught both imperial and metric at school so this was fairly easy for me)

Sat Jan 08, 2005 1:51 am

that's one nice idea! i don't actually see how the NeoChecks and Coins could help, it would indeed make it easier for scammers to take your money, but the measurements are great!

Actually, we do need. We need to use the measurements that we already know to calculate. That's what I posted earlier. You even demontrated that just there. You had to use a comparison to make up those measurements. How will we be able to learn that form of measurement? By using the measurements we know.

Furthemore, in the example you described(is that even a new type of measurement?), how would that makes lenny conundrum easier? People has to learn the new measurements numbers(such as 10000 neocent = 1 neokay) and still, they have to convert them into the the right units, because school taught them the equations that way.

It isn't just as simple as you think.

That's not a new measurement system -- it's basically just renaming an existing one. I find it unnecessarily complicated.

I'm Canadian, but the fact that Neopets uses US measurements doesn't bother me one bit. The company's based out of the states now, and whoever writes the conundrums is probably American. It just makes the most sense.

Wouldnt it be easier to just have ONE measuring unit?

All you need is actually ONE unit, such as Neometer.

The lenny counundrums would be like:
Bob has a strip of stickers, it is 5nms (Neometers) in height and 1nm in width.

I like the idea of a new measuring unit, but I dont see why we would need like 5.

Also, I think Neocoins is a GOOD idea, they can remove the NPs slot in trades that way. Maybe... to prevent scammers... Neo could have some kind of magical protection system? Neo will think of an way. ;)

The last post's content sounds good. However, isn't more than just using the meter system, under another name, and sticking only to that one system.

Sat Jan 08, 2005 3:01 am

and make people who dont know the new system learn it?
why not just learn the current system?
