Fire fox + neopets ads

How do i block the addbar at the top with fire fox i figured it out with ie but cant seem to find a way any help?

for firefox there's a plug in, ad-block I think it's called. For IE, you use a css in your IE options.

Both of these will block the ads from showing up, what I know IE won't do, and I've heard yes and no re: firefox is that it doesn't actually stop the ad from d/l in the background. In other words, you can't see it, but it is still there - and so's the associated adware/spyware. That's just what happens with these network banner companies, it's nothing against Neo. The adware is how the company knows their ad's been seen and how whatever site is using a particular network gets paid (at least that's the way it's been explained to me).

Alright, well, this does require Firefox...but I have good news. I found a way to block the advertisements AND all that blank white space at the top. Follow these instructions carefully.

Step 1: If you don't have Firefox already, get it here. Configure it, etc.
Step 2: Download these 2 extensions in Firefox after installing the browser -
AdBlock 0.5.2
ChromEdit
Step 3: Restart Firefox, then click on Tools - Adblock - Preferences
Step 4: Add 3 new filters:

http://images.neopets.com/728ads/*
http://images.neopets.com/ads/*
Click Add button to save them. Then click done.
Step 5: Go to Tools - Edit User Files, then click on the userContent.css tab.
Step 6: Scroll all the way to the end, then enter a new line:
#ban { display: none !important; }
Click the Save button.
Step 7: Restart Firefox and enjoy an ad-free NeoPets experience

For IE:

Open note pad and paste the following in there:

div.ban,div#ban {
display: none !important;
}

Then, rename the txt part of the file to css. Remeber where you put the file.

Open IE, go to Tools>Internet options>accessibility under general. Check the "format documents using style sheet" box and browse for the file you saved as css. Restart IE and you are done

I think we should avoid putting this on the front page, ebcause of the blurriness of legal problems. I don't know the exact details, but talking to somene who knows muc more of this than I do (Hunter), I was told that it could be seen as illegal. Feel free to use it, it's such an unpreosecutable crime, and it's really fine for you to do it, but putting it on the main site may involve a legal battle, which I think we'll all agree, we don't want.

Yeah, exactly what I was thinking, if the people who were putting those banner adds saw that, they would start some legal issues with PPT, and I know we wouldn't like that...

In addition to the images.neopets.com, for the Neopets site I have had to also block:

http://*.googlesyndication.com/
http://network.realmedia.com/
*.akamai.net
http://servedby.advertising.com/

Basically, when a page loads if you see an ad, click <b>once</b> the Adblock lettering at the bottom right of the screen. A window will appear with all "objects" on that page that are blockable. (The window will be blank if you click Adblock more than once. If you do this, close the window and click once again). Look for anything ad-like such as SCRIPT, EMBED etc... or URLs which look like they load ads, then click and add it to your blocked list... or before you do that you can edit the line to include * (wildcards) like above to catch all possibilities of letters / numbers etc...

For example the googlesyndication line above was originally:

http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/

However, just incase there is a pagead3, 4, 5 etc... I just blocked anything coming from <sub-directory>.googlesyndication.com.

j3h, do you use AOL? akamai.net is for some reason aol images. Check your temporary internet - click settings, then view files

A biggie for anyone blocking anything is partner-source - that's the ad that tries to run an active X script on the page. I'm really getting tired of getting the warnings for that one.

is there anything for blocking music and/or backgrounds? Or if i could just block .wav or something so those shops that have them load faster...
