i got warned for saying AIM on a chat board on neopets. What's wrong with AIM?! MSN IS BETTAH HUH NEOPETS?! HUH? YOU WANNA START SOM-
My point is, they are warning for the most insignificant things now!

People use MSN and AIM to scam other people all the time. Neo is probably trying to discourage users from asking for each other's s/n's.
Not insignificant at all, if you ask me.

Did you just SAY AIM on the boards? Or ASK for AIM on the boards?
I think that warning has been there a looong time... =\
Anywho, if you ask me, stay away from the boards... the report happy people... they will... suck... your... brains... out...
And because I want to do two jokes in one post, replace the above with:
I see report happy people O.O

Hmm, well that may actually be something that is kind of like a filter - it doesn't stop you from posting AIM, but it "triggers" a warning. I don't know how they can tell the difference between saying aim as in instant message and aim as in helping someone with a game by saying "aim at ... "
Anyway, asking for any IM/email is against the rules - it's asking for personal information. And I do agree with them on this one. No one needs to know anyone else's personal information, especially on a chat board where just anybody can see it and possibly use it for not-so-nice purposes.
I know that a couple of people have had their lookups cleared for posting their LJ, AIM, email and pictures of themselves (why people need to put a pic of themselves up I don't know).

Every time I make my boards where I give jelly away, people have to have it spelled out for them so I don't get reported because they don't bother to look past their noses. It's ridiculous.

Neoboard is evil.

Actually, they will issue warnings for asking for MSN chatters, too. It's not just about protecting u/ns and passwords, but also because MSN and AIM are the most common methods by which pedophiles "groom" their targets.

Can't say AIM but you can talk about MSN messneger (a sponsor) and use the avatars Neopets created for it. And don't forget about Yahoo Messenger which they created a whole IMvironment for. No favoritism with the tnt!

Bit of a hole because Neopets has a list of "
AIM Buddy icons" and uses the AIM style URL to select the buddy icons for the program.
The situation with AIM is that the program is commonly used and well known for instant messaging.... only recently scammers have been using other IM programs in the same regard.

I'm actually surprised you can talk about MSN messenger or any messenger on the boards, guilds - anywhere.
I don't consider the fact that there's AIM "buddy icons", the MSN icon or the YIM "imvironment" to be a contradiction myself.
They have these things for people to use if they do have an IM - and they've tried to get different ones for different messengers to accomodate people. That doesn't mean that they're going to want or condone people posting their AIM, etc. anywhere on the site - for our protection. There's been many an IM scam and there are some very very bad people out there. You don't know who you're talking to, whether they're telling the truth, etc.
Bottom line to me - if you don't already know the person, don't give out your information. Especially on a public board/forum/lookup/petpage.
Safety has to be a big consideration for Neopets or any other game site if they're COPPA-compliant. So ok, maybe they're covering for themselves too to keep their COPPA intact. But I really do think in this case they care about us.

Next time I want to roleplay on AIM, I'm going to write "A-Eye-m"

Or how about Eh-Eye-Em?

i found this on the chat rules:
Party boards or outside chat rooms of *any* kind, including advertising for them on other websites, instant messengers, guild parties, party role playing or anywhere else. Using spaces or symbols to try to hide that word is not fooling anyone.

True, but I doubt when FMA said "AIM", he was trying to advertise it...

Does anyone else find it ironic that they are freezing all over the place to try to prevent people from losing their accounts? Kinda like trying to catch a killer by firing blindly into a crowd.
