Neopets finally got it right! Hope for all you legiters

Wed Jan 19, 2005 11:43 pm

This account has been FROZEN for the following reason:
This account was using an 'auto buyer' to buy things from Neopet shops.

Along with many, I have been frozen for this new reason (no more downloadable programs). This time (first time) I was frozen rightfully, because I had infact used an AB. Neopets finally got something right, and found a way to actually find the real ABers. All the freezings took part today, looked like TNT implemented something today, as we were all frozen around the same time.

Looks good for the future for you legiters.

Well, I'm glad to know they had an excuse this time.

"Legiter." I like that. I need to find a way to work it into my sig...

EDIT: I wasn't aware that this was a "new" rule. I thought autobuyers were always against the rules. They were even specifically mentioned in the new T&C that came out early 2004.

There's a rumor going around to the effect that accounts under 3 months can't see rare items (above R80 or something) in shops anymore.

Members under 1 month can't see R 90 + items in Main Shops anymore
Membes under 3 months can't see R 95 + items in Main Shops anymore

My account is about a month and a half old and I have not seen anything over r89 all day. I was wrongfully frozen and now I have to put up with this crap? It just makes people have to wait even longer before actually using the site to it's full potential.

Just a little off-topic guys :D

Anyways, I didnt mean new rule, I meant a new reason for freezing. Previously, they would just put "download programs" as the reason for the freezing, but now they have this.

Pozy, even though I've always shown my distaste for those who cheat and use programs, I commend you for your honesty, and I thank you for sharing your info. :)

Hopefully, this will make Neopia a lot fairer world. :D (And maybe I could actually restock *something* in magic for a change. )

I've think they implemented this new rule so that ABers wont just continue to create new accounts to use their program. I dont think much of the new members will mind, because:

A) It took me a few months to learn what is "rare".
B) You probably wont see anything that rare often anyways.
C) Newer members may not have the neopoints needed to buy them, I.e. they bring 3k to restock or something, and really rare items usually cost a lot.
D) Many people dont even restock.

Unless you're coming back to Neo, and forgot your password or something. You'll still take a few days to work up a general "base" np from games.

A. What if you were frozen unfairly and you make tons of neopoints via restocking? That is horrible if you can't get anything good.. I was frozen and I immedeately went to restocking for cash. Not seeing that r:90 item would make me horribly disappointed that i cant make that muchc ash.

B.You'd be surprised. I've seen over 10 r:90 things so far today. I have been home for about an hour.

C. It isn't just newer members.. It's those who were unfairly frozen can't make a rightful amoun of np as their skill allows them too, because of the rule.

D. But for those who do and are under 3 months, this is horrible. Just because some don't restock doesn't mean you can limit the np making capability of those who do.

And on games, I once spent 8 hours and only made 50k in games. I can make 50k restocking in under an hour, or even five minutes if the right item pops up. That item won't pop up if I'm illegally frozen.

Horrible rule. Stop ABers a different way.

Neopets (and I'm sure other sites with the problem) have done so much so many times to try to address this. Every time they change the way you haggle, within days there seems to be new AB programs that can bypass whatever Neo has done.

I give them full credit and thanks for all the work they do to try to stop people from cheating this way. Of course, that means for many of us on dial up and/or older, slower computers, rs'ing is just about out of the question (i.e. the click on a pet image - can take forever to load, item is long gone).

Yes, this will impact people who were unfairly or frozen for other reasons, but overall I think this is a good thing. Yes, the ab'ers will still be there, I'm sure. They'll just have to lower the rarity or whatever nasty thing they do. But this will at least give honest players who rs an opportunity to get some of those elusive high rarity items and possibly even put more of them in the marketplace, thus (one can hope) lower some of the insane prices on certain items. That's not going to happen as long as there's ab'ers getting the "good stuff" then getting frozen with all those rare items sitting in an iced account.

Cheating on a game ... really

I agree a lot with your post.

And very cool of you to be honest about ABing, Pozy.I had been suspecting it for a while, but the fact that you admit to it is good. I remember I started ABing to get back at TNT for unfairly freezing me, so I know what it's like in your shoes.

Thu Jan 20, 2005 1:39 am

Good.. :) Now I'll finally get a chance of actually buying something from the main stores.

Thu Jan 20, 2005 1:42 am

i agree with valerielundberg, even though it is wrong you cheated it is a good thing you stepped fowerd and told us and let us know about this new form of action

Thu Jan 20, 2005 2:10 am

Yeah, I noticed that I could HAGGLE on stuff today. And BUY it. Yeah, they did something right! I have no sympathy for your iceage; you got what you deserved, but I feel compelled to congratulate you on being honest. There simply isn't enough of it to go around today.

Want a jelly?

Thu Jan 20, 2005 2:21 am

Ok.. I didn't say both sides.

Yes. This is also a wonderful rule. It gives me more of a chance to actually get some stuff i never get.
