I saw some guy with a Java App in his shop that tried to load but never finished. I'm not sure what it could have done, but that user no longer has it in his shop (it was found "unsuitable" and was cleared). I changed my password, but do you think that thing could have done something if it loaded fully? I encountered it during my short hoard of Dandelion and Burdock Drinks. If you're unfamiliar with such things, they simply begin as grey boxes bearing the text "Java Applet Loading". I am aware that at some point, people could use these applications to obtain information that allowed them to steal your account, and I'm not sure if that's what this user was trying to do.

Well, I guess it's the ABers retailating for the new move by TNT
That shouldn't be allowed though, seriously. I always thought that you couldn't do anything more than put pictures and text (and Neo links) in your shop. Did you send anything to TNT telling them about it?

No, I assumed that they had taken care of it since the shop description was cleared. The guy's account had been around for 43 months, so I'm not sure why he'd put something like that in his shop.

Hmm, did he happen to have a sort of newbish acount? Like with level 2 pets, all standard colours, very little scores, etc? Or was it a built up account, with painted pets, all the good stuff?
Either he was scammed, or he had this account for ages, and left it there, so that when he finally decided to use it to scam, people would trust him becuase of his account's age.

Omni, wow, that's just so weird. I didn't think we, as users, could have anything java anywhere - I know I tried to put a no-right-click on my petpage (I know they're useless - NOW), and got one of those "Opps" pages.
Shops? should never be able to use java anything. So I think you did the right thing in changing your password. I'd also be clearing out cookies, looking in my temporary internet settings, view items to see if there's anything "unknown" or "error" in there as well as running scans of everything I have - a/v and spyware just to feel really safe. If you have HijackThis and run regular scans, you could do a scan with that and compare it to an earlier one just to see if there is anything there.
It could all just be a mistake or misunderstanding too. But anymore it just seems like you can't trust hardly anyone, which is such a shame.

He's left it there with New Member pets and an obscured black lookup, but his shop seems legit now- if you ignore the fact that it's a mini-mall and has outrageous prices. I forgot to mention that he also provided a link to a site called mad-html.com.

I too got a java applet trying to load on a shop page tonight. Didn't finish loading, because I clicked off the page as soon as I saw it, it was in a shop selling Dandelion and Burdock drinks.

Weird stuff... Hmmm, I dunno. I can't say say anything for certain since I haven't seen the account. But theres always the chance that it's a spare shop account. As much as TNT like to say that they monitor everything perfectly, I've met various people who earn NP in more than 1 account. So this could be the case. This account may just be a spare.
Or it could be a scammed account.
Or it could all just be a big misunderstanding

I got 2 or 3 of those, all in shops selling that.

Ya juys are all stressing way too much... it could've been something innocuous like a java clock.. or a music loader. Sheesh.

Or it could trace your IP address.

Counters are javascript (I think...), maybe its one of those?
(wheeee! 666th post!

)
Thu Jan 20, 2005 9:57 am
Yeah but surely a counter wouldn't have a whole grey box applet?
Java applets tend to be used for complex things.. hmm.. I wonder what's going on there. Must be some sort of loophole in the editing box.
Thu Jan 20, 2005 10:59 am
Methinks the Anti-Neo people have found a way to exploit a glitch. Or a loophole rather. I'm just hoping that this means TNT will have to completely revamp and change the whole shop edit scheme
Thu Jan 20, 2005 11:05 am
argh! don't say that!
anyway, its a shame this always happens, it seems to be "inappropriate" as neo keeps clearing it.. so maybe some people have found a way to cheat
