Good Transferring Pet Tips

Thu Jan 20, 2005 5:15 am

The ones on the site haven't helped much  But anyway I have lost TWO cybunny's because of my clumsyness. I did it once right but since then i have never gotton a pet! I recently applied for a limited edition pet and I donnot want to lose it. Can someone give me good tips?

Sure :) I managed to transfer two of my pets from my old account to my new one, and another pet to my friend.

There's two methods, but both have the same idea. What you need to do, is either have two browsers open (eg, IE and Firefox), with one logged into each account. If you're tranfserring to someone else, just make sure they're logged in.

On the account you're transferring the pet to, put this URL in the address bar: http://neopets.com/process_adopt.phtml? ... ETNAMEHERE -- change the PETNAMEHERE to the name of the pet you're transferring. It's case sensitive.

Get the person to load the page, and keep refreshing. (If you're transferring by yourself, just hit enter so you have the error.) Then hit abandon, and as soon as the page starts to load, refresh the page in the account you're transferring to. Hopefully it works!

also, do so at a less busy part of the day... like around midnight NST.

If you use Mozilla/Firefox/Netscape, you can install the Tab Browser Extenstions plugin that gives you an auto-refresh capability (which I've used successfully 2-3 times). The Maxthon browser (which is based off IE code) has the capability of auto-refresh by deafult.

(when refreshing, I do it at least once a second)

Best way is using two browser method on your own.

Would it be a good idea for me to make a help page about transfering? Just a thought. Since I transfer so much :D Always zappering then putting back onto other accounts. Or giving to friends...

I would love to see you write a help page for pet transfer.

The two browser idea sounds like a good one. I used two different computers in the same room to transfer two much beloved, painted pets between my accounts successfully. I've also had pretty good luck using an instant message program to coordinate adoptions with other people. I'd guess I've had about 75% success that way, and usually the ones I've lost have been because people don't know how to use the pound search engine properly, or click on the pet's name instead of the picture.

I use two computers right next to eacher to transfer. Have the abandoning page on one computer, the auto adoption link up on the account you want to transfer the pet to.

Abandon, and refresh quickly. Works every time for me.

I think if we used 2 browsers at the same time, it makes the other one lagged. Like when we open IE and Firefox at the same time, IE will be on low memory than Firefox. It's just my opinion.

The 1337 transferers on Neocolours swear by the two-browser, second-browser-set-to-autorefresh-every-second-on-adoption-link technique.

For risky transfers -- Darigan, Grey, that sort of thing -- I gather some of them use multiple windows of the second browser, all of them autorefreshing, in case one of the browser windows hangs for some reason. I know several people who have lost pets even with the autorefreshing technique because a window hung for a moment, so multiple windows is probably safest.

Of course, if this makes your browsers lag it don't do it (test it first), but reportedly this seems to work pretty well (I've never tried it myself).

If you don't want the other person logged into your account (or vice versa) then I guess you start your window (or windows) autorefreshing and them IM then to tell them to abandon.

Be sure to check that you have the NP on hand to adopt, plus plenty extra in case of a random event that swipes some. Don't laugh, people lose pets because of insufficient cash all the time.
