UNAUTHORIZED LINKS TO SITE
Neopets allows users to link their site Neopets-related fan sites to the neopets.com homepage (http://www.neopets.com). However, by using this website, you specifically agree not to link to any pages within the neopets.com site without Neopets' express written approval. If you do not receive such express written approval prior to linking to an internal page on neopets.com, you hereby consent to an injunction to be entered against you by a court of competent jurisdiction, as provided herein, permanently enjoining you from linking to any internal pages from the neopets.com site.

Umm. Oiy? This... is not so good.
*sighs*
They're creating more work for themselves dang nabbit! And this makes me uneasy.

o_O I'm guessing thats something new they just added. So, it's saying that if we want to link to let's say...The Wheel of Excitment on PPT, we have to write them and ask if we can? But we can link to http://www.neopets.com, just not any page within the site?

That's odd.
I expect a bunch of accounts to become newly frozen soon because of this.

So, pretty much, any link we post in any of these threads is against their TOS. We should PM Adam anytime we want to post a link here. Also, that link that I IM'ed my sister was against the TOS too. However, you may link to http://www.neopets.com then give exact directions how to get to that page. (Go to neopets.com, click on "News", then click on "22nd November", then where it says "SITE UPDATE - We have a message regarding the new layout of the site, click here to read it." click on the word "here". Gimme a break...

I am really... really dissapointed in this new rule. I want to know what the extents of it are, and if it will affect our forums in anyway.
If it does, they're getting a letter from me, and I can tell you this, it will be unpleasant.

Tue May 10, 2005 2:51 am

you could even say "type this string of letters followed by numbers and puncutation into google, then click the one link that comes up."

Good luck to TNT as far as enforcing their new rule...

What's supposed to happen with the referral link then? That's not just a straight up "neopets.com" or are we all to assume that there is an implied consent to post this link elsewhere (or are we no longer allowed to gain referrals from web-sites?).

This rule will stop the posting of links to various pages that you can get avatars on, it will stop the posting of those lists that so many sites have of the dailies, it will stop the posting of various link discoveries during plots, etc.

The ramifications of this rule, if it is enforced will be great.

I didn't think it was all that new. Isn't that the reason all the "Quick Links" were removed from the PPT home page? And also, rules for any kind of forum like this are vague, at best. Posting them here in the forums is different than putting them on a web page.

How can they possibly even keep track of ALL the Neopian fan sites out there, ALL the personal pages (angelfire, hometown, homstead, yada yada yada) and ALL the forums? They may be TNT, but they're no superheroes. I really don't think TNT will enforce this rule too much. But you never know, they have surprised us many times.

So PPT will have to get written permission now because of the links on the front page? -.- Sheesh.

This is utter bullcrap. There's simply no other words for it. I'd like to see them sue someone over this. This isn't even a decent scare tactic like the AB rules, as it doesn't have anything to scare you about.

I betcha each link is $5,000 dollars. 1 page on any neopets help site would probably be a multi-million dollar suit. :roflol:

Before they go enforcing it on other websites, why not get it under control on their own message boards? Nothing is ever a secret on the Neoboards.

:o :o :o

This is absolutely ridiculous. Neo is turning authoritarian on us...

It's another subtle way to get in as many freezings possible to reduce site clog. They blind us with awesome pet colors, wars that look like they will be amazing, and etc., then sneakily add stuff like that to the site.

Tue May 10, 2005 3:37 am

*rolls eyes* TNT is getting rather... dense as they age... silly TNT... I doubt they can track everyone, adn I bet there will be more false freezings than anything. (Not that they really care...)

Tue May 10, 2005 3:44 am

I thought that rule was always there, maybe not worded quite the same way, as far as not posting links to say, the Dailies or freebies.

This could have ramifications for something like even a trade or BC link, couldn't it? That's a page within the site.

See this is where they get muddy. If they don't want any other sites having links to the wheels, omelette, etc. then spell it out. If we can't have any links, like to a trade or BC entry for voting or even the referral link, then they need to spell that out too.

The referral is a good example, by the way. They say to put it on your webpage, don't they? But then if you do, you risk breaking a rule?

Tue May 10, 2005 3:58 am

What exactly is the problem with linking pages? It's not like cheating. They could easily make any refering links redirect, rather than sicking lawyers on people. It's a free site for crying out loud.

Next thing you know, saying "Hi" will be against the Terms.
I honestly wouldn't be surprised, the way they are almost allowing NOTHING.
