Disabled accounts?

Wed Jul 06, 2005 7:50 am

Hi everyone :) , I just had something weird happen

I bid on some things in the trading post that were being offered for a nice price, and won a couple of them.

I went away and came back to check if the user had anything else for trade, and got the message "This account has been disabled"

Im wondering what that means?

Thanks in advance.....

Can probably mean several things...

1) Account has been frozen for cheating/scamming/spamming or some other reason.
2) User self-froze for some reason
3) Or a random icing courtesy of a jealous person/neoboard monitor

Other than that, not sure what happened there o_O

That means that the person's account had been frozen. Either they had done something against the rules or they were reported, or they may have self disabled their account.

ahh thankyou for the replies... :)

What should I do? I traded in good faith... what if they were frozen for scamming and now we get frozen for trading with them?

Any advice?

Thanks so much. Ive never had this happen before

Should not be a problem if your computer is a differnt ISP than the person if they were scamming. No problems what so ever if the person self iced.

thanks :) Im starting to feel a little better now..

Though I thought that if someone was frozen it said "account frozen" Im sure Ive seen that on the site before.

Yes, I dont know where they are from, I cant look anything up now.... but the disabled account thing happened less than 1 hour after my last trade with them.

This is getting even weirder.

I look it up from my Internet history (cache) and it says its disabled.

If I put the user name into a search in a new window.. it says "nothing with this user name exists"

any ideas?

When you try to do a search on a frozen account, it does show up as non existant after a while.

You can look up chasingbutterflies. That was one account I created but for whatever reasons was not satisfed with the way the letters ran together in lower case. I hit the unsuscribe link in the ativation email which I thought would delete the account entirly, but instead it froze the account. Nothing was in it anyway. No pets or items.

It says it doesn't exist if you do a search, but if you go to your look-up and type the name in, it will show up as a disabled account.

If you really want to know whether the person self-iced or was frozen for doing something, go to the login page, type their username in and then anything in the password page. You should get a page saying either the owner disabled the account or if they were frozen, what for.

That is odd. I hope all is ok for you. You should be fine, though you never know with TNT sometimes. There is that (to me) awful thing in the T&C re cheating/cheat programs:

5. If you cheat on Neopets games or use cheat programs, including non-Neopets software or programs, to play the games we will freeze your account. In addition, NeoPets may freeze any other account that has directly or indirectly benefited from the use of such programs.

It funny you should bring up disabled accounts thing as I checked my account which is puffchris this morning and I got:

This account has been FROZEN for the following reason:

This account was deactivated by the owner. If this was not your doing or you'd like to reactivate it, please contact us by clicking here.
If you think the above reason was applied to you by mistake, please contact our support staff by clicking here. Don't forget to include your USERNAME and explain why you think your account should not have been frozen. If you DID break the rules, please do not contact us again. Your account will NOT be unfrozen and you will not get your Neopet or items returned. But, you are welcome to create a new account, as long as you follow the rules.

Thing is I didn't deactivate it and have not idea how this thing happened.

I follow the rules (and I stand away from the Neoboards) so I have never ever had a warning and I never had been frozen until today. I suspect I was the victim of a mistake by a neostaff. I tried using the autoform though any other ideas on how to get my account back would be helpful to me.

I'm not so sure about that log on trick. I did that to a frozen account to see what they got frozen for and on the top there was a message saying IP check or ip scanning or something like that. I wish I would have taken a screenshot, but it scared me so much I quickly closed out, deleted cookies and history, everything and waited a while to log back in.

ssandgirls, I had something similar happen to me. A while back, I found a shop that was selling everything between 400-1000 nps. I bought some bottled faeries, a red PB, and medicinal soap when my daughter screamed out "That's a hypono (sp?) helmet!" At that instant, I realized that the account must have been hacked or scammed--because all of these great BD items were being sold for about 1000 nps. I was so scared that I didn't know what to do. So, I threw what I had bought into my SDB and wrote Neopets about it. I explained that I had found the shop selling stuff cheap and later realized that the person had probably had the account compromised. I offered to give the items back and/or have TNT take them away. I waited for a while and never got a response from TNT. The person's account had been frozen, so there was no way to give the items back to him/her. After a few months, I ended up taking the items out of the SDB and selling them. Nothing ever happened. But, I did get quite freaked about it.

So, if you are worried, write Neopets and explain exactly what happened.

butterfly, yikes! I never knew about that IP check thing. Actually I've never been so curious that I've tried the going to the log in page, but I know lots of people who do.

I do think, as long as the trade was a good one, in other words you didn't get a trade for a fraction of the actual value (see below) that you should be ok. Maybe the person did decide to self-ice. Who knows? Quite a few people have quit recently, so maybe they decided to sell off their items at a discount then just hold the np in case they decide to come back.

Morningstar, good catch on your daughter's part. An h4k for 1k? They're worth over 3 million! If you'd bought that, even on a whim as a "what the heck, it's cheap" there's a really good chance you would have been frozen - almost immediately because of the above (onerous) rule I quoted. You would have unknowingly "benefitted" from someone else cheating. In this case, cracking/accessing someone else's account. And we all know the chances of getting an account back that's been frozen for "cheating", right?

Like I said yesterday I woke up and found out my account had been frozen
has been FROZEN for the following reason:

I had a H4K Helmet, Portable Kiln, Downsize, Green Scorchstone, Honey Potion, Sinsis Sword, Dark Battle Duck and a Leaf Shield eqiupped to my pet.

I didn't self freeze which means someone else got into my account stole my items and self froze me whilst I was sleeping or a neostaff self froze me after someone cracked my account. I getting the feeling that the H4K Helmet that Morningstar's daughter saw may have been stolen from my neopets account (which is puffchris) by whoever cracked my account and I know that my account wasn't self frozen by me.
