I think its just a general sort of monster that they wanted to make with the newly released species. I think, the red feathers on its head are more like a headdress than any sort of hair/growth and I think the headdress idea fits in with the theme of that area of the site.

nope

the hissy is based on the winged serpent which was the war god of the aztecs i think. a ghost hissy could just mean the spirit of the once god

I see what you mean about the comparison but HIGHLY doubt it. I must agree with Medusa about the whole Hissi thing. But then again, it does look quite similar o_O

You're reading too much into it sorry. The hissi is based off the Aztec being, Quezacotl. The headdress it is wearing is a stereotypical Mayan/Aztac garmet to make the Hissi in the picture suit the scene.

Sorry, it can't be a basilisk. According to legend, they have two feet; this reflects their history as a chicken's egg that was hatched by a lizard or toad.

Yes, Basilisks were chickens with a snake tail. The head would be snakeish in some way too.

J.K.Rowling invented giant snakes.

Hehe, I do hope that was sarcasm. Serpents have been a big thing throughout history :)

No she didn't.. Basilisks have been in stories throughout history.. In fact there's even mention of one or two in Shakespeares plays... I believe there's one in Richard III - Act 1, scene 2.. And theres also another mention of one in Henry VI - Part 3, Act 3, Scene 2 (just in case you want to go look for them..) :P

..Basaliks have been around for ages, and come in all shapes and sizes.
TNT has all rights to use myths and legends on their site last I checked.. *rolls eyes*

Slightly off topic: There is an actual animal called a Basalisk, its a puny little lizard. :P We were all like: BASALISK! And looked at it(this was at a zoo. The dallas world aquariam to be exact, they have other exibits, a rainforest one being the other main one) and were like...oh my. XD

At the same place we saw this huge snake...and I heard this one kid say, "Hey mom, come look at the Basalisk!" It was a little kid, and really cute!

Here is a picture of what a basilisk is supposed to look like:

I found it on this excellent basilisk reference page:

http://webhome.idirect.com/~donlong/mon ... silisk.htm

I greatly recommend that page to anyone who is interested in basilisks. The info is wonderful. :)
