I badly want to paint my Pteri Faerie...
What do you suppose my chances are of having the lab ray (which I already have) zapping him the colour I need (assuming I morph back if I get a species change). Do you think I will save some nps doing it this way or should I suck it up and buy the brush?

I would say the chances are very slim, since species colour changes aren't the only thing that needs to be taken into account. The level changes, stat changes (for speed, defence, attack, HP), then switching to a whole new species, and all the colours involved with each species, and then even gender switches...
If you plan on labbing your pet, I wouldn't buy the paint brush until you were through bulking him up, because it would more than likely be a waste of money. You could have him as a faerie for a short while and then -zap-, there goes the faerie and he turns into a mutant, or something similar.
But if you don't plan on labbing him to bulk him up or any of that, then just pay for the paint brush.
My two cents. :-)

Chances are next to none I'm afraid... It isn't likely for the lab to zap it into the exact pet and colour that you want

It might help if it was a pteri already, so all you needed was a colour change

Still, I doubt that the lab will zap it faerie before having a species change...

I've had the lab for about, I dunno, a year (maybe 2?) and my pet's never changed colour to Fire, even though he's undergone quite a lot of changes ...
So, if you plan to get a fire Pteri by the lab, you may be labbing him for a long time ... :/

On the other hand Pteri MP's are pretty cheap. Cheap enough to keep changing whenever it changes species, which is pretty rare.

It depends on your lab history really, I have a lab that favours one colour over others, one that likes changing a lot though I've never had a redraw, and one that changes species more than colour.
You might get it within a week, though on the other hand there have been people zapping for years to try and get a specific pet. I guess you may as well try labbing at first if nothing else

I painted my pteri faerie through the lab. It took me about 2 months and maybe 75k in pteri morphing potions (I got species changes 3 times, I believe). But it happened eventually. And it was definitely worth it.
If you're zapping a pet like a pteri for a specific color, then the odds are a little more in your favor that you'll get the color you want, because the pet is very inexpensive to morph back if you get a species change. Still, it's a huge gamble because there are so many possible outcomes of each zap. I'd say, if you don't mind the possibility of buying several morphing potions, go for it. You're only in trouble if you buy more than 1 million nps-worth. lol

It might happen. I already had the lab on my account, and after TNT destroyed the Lupe (IMO heh lol) I started to think about finding a different final form for my lab pet. I really liked the Darigan Aisha so I bought an Aisha Trans potion in hopes of getting zapped Darigan. I don't know how long it took, but she changed gender quite a few times, and I'm not sure if she changed any other colors, but one morning she was zapped Darigan.
Needless to say she's retired from the lab right now. Now I'm actually going to be working on zapping a Faerie Pteri too
Oh and I only had to spend NP on one Aisha trans potion, and that was the only one I ever used on my lab pet.

If I were you, I'd buy a blue pteri morphing potion and a faerie paint brush right now, and stick them in my gallery, or the SDB.
Then I'd lab the pet to my heart's content, and only then would I paint the thing.
Species changes in the lab are very rare, and the pets change to one of the basic colors for the species. You can't have a yellow lupe turn into a faerie pteri - doesn't work like that. It has to first turn into a basic pteri, then a faerie one. And the chances of that happening are slim to none.

Didn't magical pteri plushies used to be super cheap? I remember using a couple a few times (and making a few stupid mistakes doing it, cause I didn't know what I was doing... I was so confused when my pet turned into a pteri...)
Anywho.

Actually, I just created a pteri and labbed it - and on the 2nd pteri (the first one turned into an elephante), and after it turning spotted, it changed to faerie! Id say the chances are semi-slim, but you've still got a chance - depends on how patient you are :)

If this helps, I get more color/species changes at the first minutes of 12:00 am NST. Got a Darigan Skeith, cloud Lenny, and more changes for my battle pet (currently a faerie Meerca) than I can remember.

It really comes down to which would be cheaper--buying Pteri Morphing/Transmog Potions and changing your pet back every time the lab changes your species for quite a long time, or buying a brush. Of course, it could take literally years to get your Pteri painted Faerie. In all the time I've been labbing my pet(its HP is up to 313, from maybe 20 now, if that gives you an idea), I've never gotten a Faerie pet.

Well, my pet is already a Pteri and I am willing to keep buying morphing potions. Currently the Faerie paint brush is 1.3 million and the Blue Pteri Morphing potion is 18k. That means that if I can get the faerie colour before I get 72 species changes I will have done it cheaper.
(My first zap.. -2 def [:(])

I certainly think that you'll get Faerie before having 72 species changes

You have excellent odds right now
