Random Contest: Thumb Rumble

Thu Aug 18, 2005 4:07 pm

Info and Rules:
Have you ever looked at your thumb and said aloud, "Wow... this would make a really good painting utensil," at which point everyone around you looked at you funny? If so, you're pretty weird. Actually, you're really weird. We like you.

This week we want you to use that talented thumb and make a Neopets Thumbprint Painting. (We're pretty sure these exist. If not... patent pending.) Here are the steps required to make one of these masterpieces:

1) (Legally) acquire an ink pad (like one used for rubber stamps... non-toxic of course!)
2) Stick your thumb in it (we've been told toes are also fine) to get it good and inked
3) Press it onto a piece a paper
4) Repeat until you have something (at least vaguely) Neopet-like.

Then take a picture of your art and submit it using the now-famous Neopets Random Contest form below. As always, some rules:

I) When taking the picture of your art, please include your inked-up thumb/toe in the photo somewhere to insure you indeed used it to paint. (Preferrably thumbs please... we really don't want pictures of your foot. And we can't accept anything with your face in it says Lawyerbot.)
II) This must be done on real paper with real thumbs and real ink. Nothing digital and NO other writing/drawing/painting/spelunking intruments!
III) We're more interested in how you turned thumb prints into Neopets characters than how realistic or fancy your picture is. So get creative!
IV) Eat Snacky Smores.

Also, we'd like to make it clear that Lawyerbot does not actually judge the random contests. He's just here to insure that the things we do don't break any laws... or something. So you can stop sucking up to him in your entries now. Sheesh.

I wonder if they'll allow us, to lazy (and cheap) to go out and buy an ink pad to just use makers or paint to color our fingers :/ Even though it says you must use real ink. And I just found a little something funny the lawyerbot said

Lawyerbot returns from Cornell and says:
- Make sure your parents know what you're doing and are around to supervise!
- Neopets is not responsible for any groundings due to ink spillage.
- I accept bribes.

I wonder if you can use dip pen ink.
From stamp pad ink, I get a chemical reaction, so I can't use it.

Do you think they can tell the difference between ink pad ink and marker ink? I'm pretty sure not. I've worked with lots of stamps and ink pads, and in the end, it's all similar enough. I mean... they can't be angry at you if you get a chemical reaction to ink pad ink, can they?

(Although I will personally use ink pad. ;-x)

I love Cornell. Lawyer Bot can't go to Cornell when I'm not there. Cornell is mine. :-(

This sounds very fun indeed. I must go out and get some ink!

I just painted my fingers with sharpie/highlighter ink, and said so in my entry. I've read over the rules multiple times, and don't think it matters, as long as it's ink and not paint/fruit juice/etc.

Anyway, I had fun doing it at least.

This is all a secret plot to find out who we are by fingerprinting and steal our asparagus. D:

Have I mentioned lately how much I hate the artistic PPTers? XD

neodalion, I love the style you used.

Is it just me, or does it not seem smart to put your thumbprints on the internet? What with all the identity theft going on these days, someone might find a way to steal your identity with just your thumbprint.

Maybe I'm just paranoid.

Looking at the thumbprints, they're not that distinct so I doubt you could get a good print from the images.

:roflol:

Anyway, I think I'm gonna enter this one. Luckily, my mom has an ink pad. So... this is my first Random Contest, by the way. Off to make an artwork!!

Edit-- I did the Brain Tree, but the pic was so horrible and the shape wasn't right, so I went on to do the Pant Devil. Entered it. It's not a masterpiece, but... whatever, lol.

I don't have a digital camera, but a webcam. :(

Instead of using an inkpad, I ended up having to paint my thumb with a pink highlighter.

And then I made this pink Uni. I personally think it's cute. =D

And I couldn't find the cable to hook my digital camera up to our computer (nor do I have a webcam), so...I had to scan the painting. And my thumb. (it's near the lower-left hand corner of the picture) Luckily my thumb had already dried out by the time I realized the scanner was my only option.

Think they'll accept " thumbs are down for maintenance"?
