Stuff we can't afford!

Mon Aug 22, 2005 3:14 am

Well, I've been contemplating saving nps for a while, (at 3.8 mil right now, nothing too shabby) and it led me to some questions...

- What do you all feel are the most expensive items on neopets?

- Why? Is it due to rarity, or usefulness?

- Should TNT do anything to fix the problem, and maybe bring these items down to a reasonable price?

Sweet, comment away.

All I have to say is that Neopets is based on Capitalism and if they were to make items easier to get that are worth tens of millions today, they would be truning Neopets into a Communist based economic situtation. The idea (which has been brought up many times) is one that just doesn't nor would work.

Everything is too expensive for me... ;-)

1) Full lab map sets. It's not neccessarily in the millions, but 400k for a full set? It's ridiculous! I remember when you could get the full set for 50k, and even then it seemed expensive. So when you get a new account, like I just have, it sucks seeing how much it would cost to get the lab again...

2) Reward items for beating Neoquest II on InSaNe are in the millions, however, I find it acceptable... it can take people a long time to go through and beat all three levels. So they've earned it.

3) And, my favourite: the fish negg. Old, classic, retired. On this list "just because." Most expensive due to it's rarity and how old it is. It just gets worth more and more...

No, Neopets turning to a communistic economy would be if they gave everyone a set amount of NPs they could earn per day, made it so that you could only purchase certain foods and at certain times, allowed you only one pet in 4 main colours, limited everyone to only have a certain amount of NPs maximum in their possession, gave everyone the same Neohome, everyone the same size shop, they wouldn't allow galleries... ect. That would be Neopets turned communist.

By lowering the worth of an object, it's just lowering the worth--not making the system communist. Lowering the prices of objects would just make others go up, so essentially, it's still capitalist.

Hmm, most expensive items (that I'll never have - ever):

Sword of Skarsden, Ghostkerweapons, Jade Scorchstone, Thyora's Tear (which pops up in the poll asking if that should be in the HT ... I probably couldn't afford it then either, but I can dream). All great weapons and Jade is, from my understanding, the best healer. All useful, all out of this world price-wise. Won't even go into level 50 Illusen and Jhudora items or uber war prizes!

There's nothing to be done in the case of officially retired items, changed items (H4000 helmet anyone?) or "unofficially" retired items, like SuAP - those are coved, but only a limited number are ever released.

If everything was cheaper, that could actually be a not-so-good thing, IMHO. Why? Because you wouldn't have long term goals, which can go a long way to keeping your interest on the site.

Even with some things that are out of reach for the "average" player, there's still alot you can buy if you're willing to put some effort into it.

Yes, there is inflation on the site. I remember when I started, 3mil was ALOT, you were definitely "rich" - this was before avatars. Some of those have really caused major inflation! Now, anything under 10mil won't get you too far if you're looking for some expensive things, want to have a great gallery, paint your pets (especially if you have 4 and want them all morphed/painted), etc. Right now, I'm in the "everything is too expensive" category too, soymimi.

The one most expensive item could be that 70iconer that only fetheralley has. I don't think anyone could afford it.

:o

what? what 70 iconer? what single item does that much damage?

Mon Aug 22, 2005 10:39 am

Doesn't the SuAP do the most damage out of all the weapons in the game?

Mon Aug 22, 2005 10:56 am

Oh yes, those attack peas... would be so nice to have one of those some day.
But I don't think items are too expensive... just save money, like in real life. I already got the Sword of Skardsen and the Ghostkershield doing this... and no doubt one fine day I'll own an attack pea <3

I think featheralley or someone got an extremely good weapon from the Darigan war for beating him first, it's a tad confusing really, because she has 2 of the weapons. I think hrobi has another... I'll go check IDB

Well, featheralley obtained the Darigan Sword Of Death, which does 10 of each icon... *dreams*

There is also only one or two of the following, to my knowledge:
Lord Darigans Jewel
Lord Darigans Blade
Castle Defenders Shield
Castle Defenders Sword

Also, for the most expensive common item as such, Illusens Staff or a Super Attack Pea, about vary from about 250 million - 350 million

The best weapon in the game is the Ultimate Attack Chive of Death. 160 icons, only available to BD Opponents.

Seriously, though. Weapons cost money because there is either a low supply (i.e. High Rarity) or a high demand (i.e. Useful item), or a combination of the two. For Neopets to deflate the item, they have two choices. The can either increase the supply, which means making the item less rare. The other option is to reduce the demand, which means making the item less desireable, like a downgrading of a weapon. Neither of these options make people particularly happy.

Anyways, even though I'm a modest player, I'm glad that some items are worth more anyways. They need items all along the scale to allow rewards to all the different richnesses of players. For example, the reward that a player has 1 million more than you, for example, is that they can afford an Hypno Helmet.

the faerie doll collection :( right now the soup faerie doll alone is 50m, let alone the other ones.

Isn't one of the attack peas (seasonal, I think) worth 200mil? I know for sure I will never be able to afford one of them

Mon Aug 22, 2005 1:25 pm

anything that featheralley's pet has is praitically ultimate rich goodie. Haha

Ok first of all, i dare say i am quite pro in this field...

Weapons:

Attack Pea (3rd With 26 Icons - 90 - 110m)
Seasonal Attack Pea (2nd With 30 Icons - 100 - 150m)
Super Attack Pea (Most Expensive Amoung e Peas [34 Icons] - 200-300m)
H4000 Helmet/Hypno Helmet (Sure Freeze & Won't Break - 4m++)
Thyoras Tears (This Blocks ALL Attacks - 30-45m)
Montocepter Claw (Got no idea how much this is... 200m?)
Faerie Slingshot (Faerie Acorns+Little Timmy Slingshot - 100m++)
Ghostkercheif Sword (15m But Retired Making It 45m++)
Ghostkercheif Bomb (Best Bomb With Almost 40Icons - 7m++)
Illusen Staff (Last Lvl Of Her Quest - 240 - 360m)
Wand Of Dark Faerie (Last Lvl Of Dark Faerie Quest - 80m)
Jade Scorchstone (Full Heal - 24 - 40m)

The most expensive item that is actually eing sold, traded on a semi-contstant baisis (ie. no items that only one exist of that only one person has that they arn't selling) is the Super Attack Pea. Usually sells for about 250mil. Mainly because it is a trove item, a goodbattledome item, and an avatar item. Add the three together and boom, 1 pricey veggie.

Does everything under 75k count?
