More pet Skills?

Sun Sep 25, 2005 2:59 pm

Roanna's post got me to thinking, Why can't pets have more skills? Why can't they make their own things or their own food. In another game I play, players can mine to get ores, they can get eggs, flour, and things to make their own foods. They can basically make a lot of the the items found in the game. It would be great if neopets could do this.

Here is how it would work:

There would be several new mini worlds added to the games. In these mini worlds would be several places we could visit daily to aquire the things we would need. As we visit these places our skills would increase. It would basically be like the fishing game. We could visit each place once for each pet, or maybe more.

We could have Kau Kau farm, where we could acquire milk. Maybe we would have to clean up dung as well. Every day we would be able to gather supplies from the farm by bartering or doing work. With milk, flour, eggs, and other ingredients we could begin to make our own foods. We would get skill levels depending on the foods we made. At first we might level up once a day, but maybe after a while it would take more to level up. The best cooks could make cakes and cookies and other things.

There could be other places like Kreludor where we could mine for ores to make our own battledome things.

Also, our own pets would be able to help us. From time to time our pets could loose a tooth, a scale, or something. These items would be collected and be able to be used to barter for other items from other players or charactors around the site. So for a scale we might could get some uni hair or some kau milk or a feather. I could just see the boards!

Trading an eyrie feather for a koi scale!

Anyway, I think it would be very easy to implement. It would basically just be pushing a button, like you do for the fishing game.

It would be like this:

Welcome to Kau Kau farm! You are are a level One farmer. What would you like to do?

Milk a Kau

Before you can do this, you need to clean a stall.

You see a button and push it.

You see a picture of a dirty stall and you can read a description of how you do some dirty work and clean up some dung or something. Kind of like the descriptions you read when visiting the lost city of Geraptiku.
You might have to read through several pages detailing the work you are doing.
Finally you are allowed to milk a Kau.
As you gain levels you can do more work and get greater rewards and items to use to either make things or barter with other players.

Maybe they could have more plots to gain access to other areas on the game where you could mine, or hunt or do other things.

They could have places where you could turn in your ores or items, or become an aprentence to someone who could help you hone your skills.

All of this could be done easily by reading and pushing the appropriate button. Of course I would love to have a neopets 3d massive multiplayer roleplaying world thing one day. But it would take forever to make. They could just make more mini worlds and few buttons here and there to push and achieve the same thing basically. We'd just have to read and use our imagination.
Anyway, we already have seen places where we can collect items, such as fishing, hunting for berries, ect. We go to donnie and push a button and he fixes our broken toys. Why can't we be his apprentence? If we could somehow work this into a bartering system or they could have more items that could be made from items we collect around the site, I think neopets could become more interactive and fun even for new players. Maybe it would be easier for some to become a merchant or craftsmans or farmer than to play games or restock. I mean, anyone could do this!

*Comes out of lurking*

That sounds awsome :o You should neomail that idea to TNT (The neopets team, not the neopian times ;) ).
However, I think it should be a little more interactive to level up, like say you actually have to click on the dung to clean up the room or something in the farm.

But overall sounds like an awsome idea. And it would give you something extra with owning a certain pet. I can just imagine how much a "Draik scale" would cost 0_o But it would be cool nonetheless and offer some variety in the game play as well.

Here here. Sounds like a great idea. You should try to actually email Neopets this idea instead of the editorial.

Excellent idea. Some playstation games have a similiar concept. You must clean out the horses stall, brush it and give it water before you can do anything else.

It would liven up Neopets. I do get bored with it at times.

Well I also wrote my idea down at the Neopian Times Writers forum and I know that some of the staff lurks there, so maybe they can read that too. It is hard for me to write a lot in an idea email, and I don't really know if those are looked at. I tried writing a long and detailed email just now and I did send it off, but I just hope that they read this post, because I can more describe what I want here. And you guys can comment and add to it.

Anyway, some pets are less popular, such as buzzes and lennies and stuff. I think the less popular pets should get the best item boost at this time.
Buzz Honey should be comparable to a draik scale. And a lenny feather or something like that should be great too. Each pet should have something awesome to contribute so that there really isn't going to be a great benifit in owning a rare pet. But it might be more of an incentive to own a buzz or some of the less popular pets if they could give you honey. And well, this wouldn't be a daily thing either. I don't know how often it would happen.

And well, I think each skill should sort of feed on other ones. So before you can milk the kau, or grind the grain, or whatever you need to do, you might need to fish first. The farmer might want a certain kind of fish. Or maybe he would want a certain kind of berry from the berry farm. But before you could pick a berry at the berry farm you might have to do something else. Well anyway, the potential for a catch 22 situation could happen, so hopefully they will work the bugs out. It would stink to not be able to milk the Kau because you need a berry. And not be able to pick a berry until you bring the berry farmer some milk! LOL!

And well, it sould be easy to start a skill, but harder and harder to level after a while, and with greater rewards when you do.
But anyone should be able to participate, even new players and little kids who might not be so good at games. And well, teachers and parents would just EAT THIS UP because it teaches kids about bartering and that the foods they eat and the things they use must be made, and that takes work. And I could see this being used in class rooms. So if any staff are reading this, I am sure you are eating it up too. Becuase you could therefore say your site is educational and get some brownie points from someone somewhere, and that is always good! :) (Not that your site isn't already educational, because it really really is.)

I'm not a big fan of this idea. I didn't really like Runescape when I tried it.

Plus, they already have something rather similiar to this: NQ and NQ2.

I can just imagine the poor owners of Kaus, beseiged by offers/requests/demands from other players to milk them.

"LLETT mi skwwez ur kua or ill REPOT u!!!1!!"

Unfortunately, I think it's too big a project for Neopets. In theory it sounds great, but then you could say the same thing about Communism.
winter mentioned Neoquest and Neoquest 2, which brings the "game-within-a-game" idea up. Perhaps, with some working about to where you would only be able to play Neopets in this manner if you so chose and the rest of the Neopets community could continue with their "omg im so por and u r so rich gimme all ur np now!!!!!!!1one" and/or "Make NP the easy way! This is NOT A SCAM!(just give me your password and everything you own)" lifestyle, it could work. But I doubt that it will ever happen.

I think that'd be awesome! Then, if you're poor, you don't have to go to the soup faerie, you could go milk the kau and get some milk yourself :)

I think you read my mind. Out of my head, now! :P But in actuality, the idea sounds wonderful... just like Neoschools. *cough*

Never! I have to make a few dozen last stands first.

Communism...Neoschools...Same thing, really.

Now that's a sig line!

I fail to see what's so great about creating more fishing hole like places... Is clicking once per day per pet (or however often you click fish) really making neopets that much more exciting for you?

Actually, I love this idea. I'm not sure it's entirely do-able but I can see why it would be fun.

I think to save the whole "gimem ur kau mkil coz im soooo poor" situation, I think the items you gain through skills should not be allowed to be sold for NP and be tradable items only.

There'd be begging for trades, too (unless the system came with a co-op for bartering items of similar value -- if player A has earned a gallon of Kau milk, he can swap with player B for a jar of Buzz honey, if they both put them up at the co-op).

Otherwise, the skill items would have to be used only on that account (like starter paint brushes).
