Secret Lab Ray... Worth It?

Mon Oct 10, 2005 4:57 am

What are the odds that the lab ray will do something good?

usually the lab ray does good things, adding to the 4 attributes and the level of the pet. However, it can change the color, gender, species of your pet, and also lower your stats. In the long run, your stats will increase, but you have to not care about what your pet will look like/what species it is. Check the sticky thread of the lab results for more info

I think the lab is not worth it.END of story.

Just get it, seriously. I have seen a hundred people ask this question. Just get it, you wont regret it. If you want to battle, unless you're really, really rich. You're going to be broke on codestones.

Like WIS said, get it.

In the long run, it's really worth it. There are some times it will lower your stats, but essentially, your pet is gonna get a whole lot stronger.

..Plus, it might turn into that painted pet you wanted. ;)

Worse of all... It can downgrade your pet to level ONE...

Thats only if your pet is below level 5. Otherwise, the worst it can do is lower your pet's level by 2

If you just want to raise whatever stats then go ahead and get one. It's fun to go through various pet colours and species. If you want your stats to be balanced though then stay well clear, likewise if you ever one day want to switch from labbing to codestones. Your HP and strength will be too high compared to your level and your defence will be terrible.

Also if you are wanting to get into battling seriously then the best healer for your money is a species one like kacheek or elephante. You can't do that if you lab as you'd spend a fortune transmogging back into those species all the time. I'm stuck until a Scorchio healer comes out though mind you =P

Really it depends what you want your labs for, I used mine to get nice pets and to train my battle pet but I soon stopped that and changed to codestones. But because I'd labbed him already it's costing me more than it should to train him due to his high HP. If you want matching strength and defense then stay well clear, if you want high HP and strength then go for it :)

Even though you have to spend more to train defense and level, wouldn't that still be less than if you only trained using codestones? I mean, if you didn't use the lab ray then you would still have to train level and defense, as well as attack and HP.

If you really love your defense and want to see it sky high, the lab ray's not for you...

If you really love levels...and you want them sky high...CODESTONES ... [I hope that doesn't sound like the lab ray]

If you really just don't care and want to be as random as possible in what you're getting, gain or lose, lab ray [doesn't sound like codestones I hope ;)]

Oh and if you love your pet's species and would stab yourself with a carrot if it turned into something else ... either steer clear of the lab ray or stay away from carrots...

Think of the possibilities.
One day you could be a blue scorchio, the next a halloween elephante, a few days later a maraquan korbat, then another day disco kyrii.

You may change into a species/colour that enables you to get a new avatar.

You may gain a large number of HP, strength and movement points.
You may gain/lose defence points

Or nothing at all may happen.

Plus, it lets you buy the petpet lab which is great fun

In 2 player battles I can always easily see if a pet has been trained by the labray... high on HP, low on defence. And even though a pet has way more HP than me I can easily beat them because my pet has been evenly trained with codestones... Don't underestimate defence, if someone can't hit you they can't beat you.
I'm thinking about combining codestone training with the labray though... I just have to watch out the labray won't send me to a more expensive level...

You could always do like I do and choose the training but don't pay for it, then if you go up to a more expensive level, you still pay the same until you finish that time

well in my opinion I think it's worth it because your pet can get really strong from it and here's a page giving the percentages for some of the results http://idb.finalhit.org/?searchtype=pag ... g&type=lab
I'm saving for lab ray because it can give your pets a lot of strength, defence and hp and change your pets colour or species and make you look rich

Not really, it only works like that if you zap very occasionally in which case it isn't worth the money you pay for it in the first place - so with zapping very occasionally it is worth it if you already have the lab but it isn't worth it if you haven't got the lab yet. And even then it will probably only save you a tiny amount if at all as it depends on the individual lab. If I zap as well as codestone train it takes much longer and I end up retraining to the same level of defense or level over and over again. Plus it raised your HP more often than not which would mean you'd have to keep raising your level which would mean training anything uses more codestones. I used the lab to start with which I thought was saving me money but in the end I ended up paying much more to get to the level of stats I'm out now than if I had codestone trained from the beginning. Much more =(

I got a lab map on my main and have ended up hand painting all my pets as after a year I hadn't got anything I liked. On my second account the same thing happened though it did give me one nice colour that paid its way. And on my third lab... I'm still waiting for that to have paid for itself at all. Really labs are only good for fun and if you fancy the chance of getting a nice painted pet (chances of getting a good colour have seemingly been reduced since a couple of years ago) but if you are going to end up training or painting yourself anyway then it isn't worth it. Mine were fun but they didn't help me achieve any goals, so if you are after fun then it's great. But beware, most good 2 player battlers can spot a labbed battle pet a mile off.
