Impossibe to send photobucket links over neomail?

Sat Nov 19, 2005 12:20 am

I understand their logic behind it, but it makes it impossible to share neopet drawings or share any examples of your art.

My question is how can they know I am sending an image from photobucket even if I remove all but the filename. I even removed the gif extension and yet it still said that Photobucket.com wasn't allowed. All I had was just the bare name of the image, not even the link.

I'm puzzled how they could have figured it out? Is there a program that screens the photobucket site for the file name and then if it matches any image on the site than it prevents you from sending?

Perhaps this is too confusing or I'm being paranoid, but I wasted about 20 minutes trying to figure out why it was preventing me from sending.

Sorry this is rushed because I feel very . :o and :x right now

I wish they could allow a way to send harmless images, expecially if you are into art or doing fanart or art trades, etc.

Unfortunately I can't see them ever allowing links. To be truly "harmless" or found harmless by TNT they'd have to go over every single link sent individually. This would be a waste of time on their part when efforts are better used elsewhere.
Though you may not abuse something like link sharing on the site, so many others would, and thats why they can't allow it. *shrugs*
If you had an account on deviant art, or elfwood you could always post said name on that account and tell them to search for you on the site. I've seen quite a few other people do that and it's never really phased them or been contested.

This sounds a little strange. I just tested and I was definitely able to send just the bare filename without any extension or link. Maybe it was remembering that you'd originally tried to paste in a link? Try clearing out your cache and starting a new neomail.

That could be that it was going through my history. But it did let me send without the filenames.

Anyways I tried to put my frustration to good use and send a message through the "contact us" about it. I mentioned my intentions and asked why photobucket must be blocked? I also said that I'd like a way to send just images, no urls to websites other than uploading to my pet page or look-up.

Why not just put the image on a petpage where they can view it? They are just never going to again allow us to send links through neomail.

I think it's unlikely that they'd allow people to send images. They obviously don't even have time to look at all the images their advertisers put up, and those people are providing them with revenue. Letting regular users send images would be dangerous; not everyone would keep it innocent.

The method suggested above seems like your best bet for letting people view your artwork.

My guess would be theft? Other than that I don't see why that wouldn't work either.

I think I'll upload them to my deviant art gallery. I guess you're right. There was probably no reason I should have been bothering to send the images in the first place.

I was actually going to send images of stuff I did for something outside neopets, so that's why I didn't want to put it on my pet page or look-up.

It's really complicated, but basically I was talking about a game that people over the internet community have taken to use as a media for "drawing" pixel creatures. These creatures can even end up being neopets.

I was going to show my creations I had used the game to create.

Anyways I'll put them up in my deviantart scraps.

Still bothers me because many people use photobucket for sharing their neopets fanart for either the site or another user, or reporting art theft to the artist, etc.

I heard long ago neopets had considered making their own image host for that purpose in mind, but I guess it was a pipe dream that died long before my time. :(
