Sinsis Helm and Winged Scarab

So what exactly do they do? I just recently bought a sinsis helm and it's doing damage to me! I thought it did damage to your opponent, when it blocks physical!

it damages you 5 times your defence boost, times your stance modifier, if you get hit with physical damage
your boost is either your defence boost in numbers (0, 8, 13, 20, 35, 55, etc) or the modifier (0.5, 0.75, 1, 1.25, etc). i'm sure sure, but you get that amount of damage, times 5. then the damage is multiplied by your stance, like berserk, fierce, defend, etc.
it seems good, if you lack defence and have hp. it blocks all physical, which can help a lot
