Whispers about the Neopets Movie

Sun Feb 12, 2006 7:00 pm

News from Variety

Warner Bros. Pictures has hired scribe Rob Lieber to pen the first CG-animated feature resulting from the studio's pactpact with popular kids Web site NeoPets.

Studio and Warners-based producer Dylan Sellers are working with John A. Davis to direct and co-produce the pic. Davis is currently helming animated pic "Ant Bully" for Warners.

Producers are keeping the concept and logline for the NeoPets project under tight wraps. Created in 1991, NeoPets is tracked by millions of kids who log on to take care of their own virtual pets, as well as follow storylines about other pets who populate Neopia.

Warners inked the deal with NeoPets before Viacom bought the Web site. NeoPets has the option to co-finance and co-produce any NeoPets pic with Warner.

Even when it was announced, I had my doubts that they were actually going to go through with it. I thought perhaps Warner Bros. just wanted the rights to the movie but would most likely just keep it under the table. But it looks like they're actually working on it. Yikes.

There is no hope for American animation.

A good Neopet Movie?

Will the project avoid development hell where many erred for so long and lost their souls along the way?

Generally animation movie from a franchise lacks a coherent and original script. And ohhhh PLleaaassssseeeee , NO SONGS!!!!

Anything from Pixar (though I have some reservations about the upcoming movie Cars) is well made and well thought.
Everything in the film is there for a reason whileas the most recent films of Disney every thing is made for a marketing reason.

William Goodman screenwriter of Butch Cassidy and Sundance fame once wrote you need 3 things to make a good film : a good script, a good and a good script.

However Jean-Pierre Melville of France wrote something like that (loosely translated) : a film is made up of 50% acting, 50% directing, 50% art directing, 50% lighting, 50 music, 50% editing etc. because if one of these elements is wrongly done, the film is half as good as it should be.

In essence, making a film is a battle but getting a film made is war!

That's EXACTLY what I thought of too! Hahaha. I can just imagine it. It would be super-cute seeing all the neopets animated, but still...a bit strange/scary.

And I can imagine Kacheeks talking like Pikachu. But instead of "Pika! Pika!" it would be "Chika! Chika!".

Oh dear o_O

Yes :( Quite like that. I don't know whether it's a good thing or not.

But the funny thing is, if they did bring out a Neopets movie, I'd go and see it, no questions asked.

Oddly enough, I actually liked the first Pokemon movie (never saw the rest). I have no doubt that this will likely be much better, and so I'll probably enjoy this.

Same here. would go see it to support my favorite gaming site.

And i'm sure they won't make the mistake of having the Neopets pronouncing their names as a form of speaking. I mean, they have plots (and a video game) showing they speak english (or whatever language they are speaking in your country). they wouldn't be that dumb...
