Neggsweeper help!!!

Tue Aug 17, 2004 3:33 pm

I've got a huge problem. I've got one mine to go, and the only ones on the board are the ones I'm about to post in a picture. I've never beaten one on hard difficulty before and I think it's a cruel joke to let me get this far and shoot me down :-P

Thanks for any help!

EDIT--
Nevermind. For the record, it was the one in the middle :(

The hard and medium levels often make you guess, I'm afraid. :(

Just for future reference, you could work this out.

It is clearly not the one on the left, else the 1 wouldn't be satisfied.

Also, it can't be the one on the right, else there would only be 2 mines around the 3.

Hence, it could only be the middle one

Wait a minute, do you mean the middle one contains a mine or is free of mines? o_O
I figured that the middle one should be the one to click, it should be free of mines. Am I right?

The middle one IS a mine

That's not true, since there was only one free space left, that meant 2 of the 3 squares must be mines. There are several combinations that could have worked. I'll use x's and o's to show each line with the different combinations (x's for mines)

X-3-2 -1
X-x-o-x

X-3-2 -1
X-x-x-o

X-3-2 -1
X-o-x-x

All three of the above satisfy all of the surrounding squares.

The middle one one the one I should have clicked, the one without the mine.

Except only the first one could actually be correct...
the second one
X-3-2 -1
X-x-x-o

has four X's by the number three, so it can't be right.

The third one
X-3-2 -1
X-o-x-x

has two X's by the number one so it can't be right either.

One of your cross is not correct. The one at the corner is not a mine.

The answer is one of these two:

x-o-x-o
o-x-x-o

Hope this helps.
