That's why I have two abominable snowballs in my inventory, as soon as he wakes up, I rush to the adoption agency, adopt a pet, equip an abominable snowball, kick turmaculus, he doesn't eat my petpet, I unequip the petpet, and abandon the pet. All I lose is the np for adopting and abandoning. Works quite well.
