whats the point of hacking?

Yes i know its a strange question, but y do ppl do it. None of this stuff is real. So they try to be the top person of a virtual world, whats the point. Not just on here but any site like neopets. half the time its just jelous ppl that can't stand having ppl be better than them. Im sry but thats just stupid.

People are more often scammed then hacked on Neopets. And why they do it, I don't know, for kicks? I think its more of a just for the heck of it, and they have to skill to then wanting stuff. Its just mean spirited to put it shortly.

It's different for every hacker. Some might do it for fun, some might do it to get ahead in the game, some might feel powerful doing it and some people might feel better doing it. If someone is hacking a website (Neopets, Runescape etc...) they might be doing it to satisfy themselves. They might have had a low self-esteem and this raises it, knowing the can achieve something without failing. I am not a hacker, this is just my theory.

Well, why do you play? Do you not play to be the top person? Think about it, if you had access to all weapons, all items, tons of NP...thats why hackers hack...but they get frozen, and i expect there just Hacking Neopet users to get back at Neopets for freezing their accounts.

Sometimes its for the np. Most of the time its for the kicks. The rare items and np they get from it are just a bonus.

uhh there's never been a hacker on neopets.. your talking about scammers and they scam because they're bored or they want some np.. hackers on the other hand are 1337 ppl who get into databases (on cool games.. no offence but they wouldn't spend their time on neopets.. too much security and there's nothing important them) and crash the site.. they usually do it to show their 1337ness or just because they're bored.. they even have hacking competitions.. or they do it just for the challenge

On the contrary. Read Yukio's article called "Neopia-The Darker Side." All of that is true, and really did happen. I may not be a hacker, in fact I despise them, but I myself think that TNT should beef up database security if they're becoming so popular in terms of marketing and such.

When I say "we", im not saying Im a hacker... i dont know the slightest about hacking, so dont worry, Im on your side.

But I guess hacking and scamming is a source of entertainment. It is an art, just like painting, music, dancing, or cutting hair. I dont think hackers should be ruining things or doing things that would really hurt people, but as long as they practice hacking and learning new tricks, I can see where it would be fun to try them.

And I bet they see ""oh, heres a website filled with kids, lots of little whining chatboard kids, and a bunch of pokemon.... now THIS is a fun place to target!!" I can see it would be funny.... but like i said, i wouldnt do things that would HURT people.... i would make a Uni named "CuteWiddlePinkPony" on their account, and steal all there dung... then Neomail all there neofriends saying "Mwhahaha! MY DUNG HAS BEEN STOLEN!!!! AND LOOK AT MY NEW CUTE PET!!"

Ah.... i can see where that would be fun and thats probably why they do it. because they can.

Neojoe's right - there have been and I wouldn't doubt there still are hackers on Neo, be they players, ex-players, whatever.

Yes, most on-site stuff is scamming, which is different. Then there's "cracking" where someone's email is gotten into - usually a web-based one (like Hotmail). From there, a person could get access to anything that email's used for.

Reasons I've heard why hackers hack on Neo:

1. just because...they can?
2. for kicks
3. greed - wanting to "get ahead" quickly
4. revenge - either on specific player(s) for real or perceived wrongs or on Neo itself
5. "rep" - they want recognition from other "hackers" and a reputation. Somehow it makes them feel cool or important
6. because they were hacked/scammed (truly pathetic)
7. and the scariest reason - practice for bigger (read real life-type) things

neopia-the darker side? i haven't heard of it sorry can you link? i seriously doubt neopets EVER had a hacker problem but i'm willing to read it so yea.. eh as someone who has lots of real hacker friends (not the widdle scammers and ppl who steal np from newbies) i can tell you that none of my friends would even consider hacking neopets.. its with all due respect not worth their time.. there's nothing cool about saying "i crashed neopets for 2 hours" because come on its neopets.. most ppl who play it are 8.. and its not nice to deprive little kids of their favorite game(and it crashes so much that an extra 2 hours is hardly noticeable ) but if you say "i managed to crash the largest war craft 3 server" that's considered very cool.. the ppl who play warcraft 3 (or atleast some of it) respect just how hard it is to crash a server.. ppl on neopets often use the terms "hacked" "scammed" and "cracked" intertangebly.. (for future refrence: cracked: someone got into your account because you wrote your pw and left it somewhere, u used a library comp and didn't log off, they guessed ur pw, they used a program to guess ur pw (which is much harder to do now).. scammed: someone stole your items.. hacked: someone had the skill to break through firewall and all the other antihacking programs that ppl use to actually get into the database (once they're in what's the point of stealing from 1 person to give to another? they might deduct from everyone but its not like your special and a hacker has a grudge on you)) err yea sry for any spelling/grammar i'm 1/2 asleep

If you ask me, they want to be rich, and not work for what they earn. They want to get ahead of the game, no matter what the cost. So they hack. They scam. They steal. They rob others of their work, their earnings.

yea, like i said they are jelous that someone is better, and the worst part its all FAKE. some ppl work hard at trying to get their scams to work, just to get ahead in a FAKE world. its just stupid
