I got one of my images placed in the art gallery the day before last - with all the clay stuff - anyway, Since then, I've been bombarded with RUDE neomails, neofriends requests out the butt (though I have now put myself on neofriends block, which makes me really sad.. ) and just today, I got a really really scary neomail, that makes me upset.
I don't put watermarks on my images because I feel it takes away from the work. But now I'm wondering if I should take all of my artwork DOWN because of this one stinky neomail..
I hope you know that people can steal your artwork and you can never know about it. And if they just put your pictures in their lookups, you can't report them for it. I bet at least 50 people have stolen some of your artwork and you didn't even notice it. HAHA
;.; I reported them for harrassment, but why are they being mean to me, just because I got an image put in the stupid AG? Stupidity stinks.

*huggles*
You just ignore them..it'd be a good idea to put a small water mark on your pic in the future, then it wouldn't be that noticeable but it'd still be there?

I got the same thing when one of my pieces won. It's just them being jealous. Jealousy is just another byproduct of the neopet's demographic.

Your picture cannot have any copyright or trademark symbols on it. Having your username is fine, but it cannot be copyrighted.
That's what the rules say. And if you put your username, then people could take it away. If you put a watermark, TNT might reject it because it doesn't look clear.

Hmm, this is a sticky one, simply because you can't put the ©, watermark, etc. on anything you submit to the bc or art gallery. What you can do is put your username on the image - and I mean put part of your name right on the image itself.
Yes, people may still try to take it, but it would be a little bit harder to get rid of the name if it's written across a part of the picture itself.
Technically speaking, I believe I read (will have to look at this again) that if you submit something to say, the bc or art gallery, Neo owns the copyright...something weird like that.

Geez, that person must've been really jealous. I don't know why they'd even bother neomailing you to tell you that and be rude about it if they weren't jealous.
Fri Sep 10, 2004 12:09 am
Yeah, when you submit something to TNT, you give them ownership of it.

When I draw a Neopets pic that I plan to stick in the art gallery (they never get in GRRRR), I type my username in the corner, but usually over the background or feet or something. That way, if they get rid of it, it'll either have an ugly smudge or the bottom will be clipped off, and I'll have the full version for proof. :3
Those people are jealous losers who have no artistic ability whatsoever and just wanna make you scared and sad. Report them, or just laugh at them.

That is so sad.
I was bombarder with neomails before when I topped a high score table at the vending machine, but most were beggars. I am not sure why would they send you rude messages like that anyway.
Anyway, it will go away sometime, just keep your calm. Maybe turning neomail off (Neofriend only) would help, too.

Stupid beggars. But in this case it's probably a REALLY jealous person who thinks your artwork is so good, they bug you.

Do you really mind people stealing your artwork? If it were me, I would just treat it as a sort of compliment (hey, my artwork is good enough for people to want to steal it!

). Anyway, once you submitted your artwork, it isn't yours anymore, it belongs to Neopets, so technically they are just stealing art from the Neopets site

yeah, you should actually be seeing it as a good thing, I mean no one would steal art that looked crappy

But if you do have a problem with it, don't submit anything to neo because like everyone said, you lose all rights to it.

This isn't legal advice, I'm just giving you some info, and a bit of my understanding. Check out
http://www.copyright.gov/circs/circ1.html#wci
"Copyright protection subsists from the time the work is created in fixed form. The copyright in the work of authorship immediately becomes the property of the author who created the work. Only the author or those deriving their rights through the author can rightfully claim copyright."
You get copyright immediately, you don't have to register.
"The use of a copyright notice is no longer required under U. S. law, although it is often beneficial."
Even though Neopets requires that you don't put the copyright notice on your artwork, it doesn't matter. You aren't required to in order to secure your copyright anyhow.
"Any or all of the copyright owner's exclusive rights or any subdivision of those rights may be transferred, but the transfer of exclusive rights is not valid unless that transfer is in writing and signed by the owner of the rights conveyed or such owner's duly authorized agent."
Neopets doesn't get your copyright unless you both sign something in writing. As far as I can figure, you've granted them use of your work. You still own your work and retain copyright.
Edited to Add: And I can't even figure out what exactly you grant them, other than maybe the right to display in the gallery, despite what they claim. Just because a clause is in a document doesn't make it legal. And if it isn't legal, that particular clause in invalid. It doesn't nullify the whole document, though. ...it's too complicated. Don't submit unless they stop claiming all rights from now until the end of time in all the universe.

Doesn't Neopets say that anything you submit to their site becomes theirs? By submitting, you agree. So Neo gets the copyright.
And about the neomail, it might sound rude, but it's true.

People steal..

When I got into the Neopian times I had a girl neomail me that wanted to be my friend.
Now she wants me to do her math homework. O_O
Getting not invisible sometime sucks.
