How the gallery spotlight is run

I just sent in this to the editorial:

I think the gallery spotlight should be voted on, like the beauty contest. It could be broken down into submission categories, so if you're looking for a certain gallery, it would be easier to find than having everyone send in an email.

Do you think that makes more sense? I know I'm not the only one who has a gallery, and somone else with less items, and poorer layout won, probably because they didn't read my email in time to put up an asparagus gallery. I've seen some pretty poor galleries, and seen better of the same item that should have won. If it was set up like the beauty contest, it would be more efficient.

edit: I imagine it a bit like this page here: http://www.neopets.com/beauty/vote.phtml There's a pull-down list that shows the different species of pets. I would make the list like this:

Pick gallery:
Food
----asparagus
----potatoes
----slushies
Items
----morphing potions
----plushies
----Court Dancer
Pets
----chomby
----wocky
Colors
----blue
----yellow
misc
----eyeballs
----discusting
----rhymes
----magic
unlisted
----unlisted (this would be the category that the TNT would sort)

As soon as a gallery has been submitted, you get a confirmation. When you submit into the "unlisted" category, you don't get a confirmation until it's been sorted.

Granted I know I'm missing categories, but you get the idea.

Well, I like it! But this is coming from someone who made a Court Dancer Gallery! It could have been great if I could have had it picked for spotlight during the war but now. . .blech! It is the only complete CD gallery I have seen but I dont see them picking it now! . . .I'm going off to pout now. . .

There would have to be a place to submit your gallery if your category/subcategory isn't listed... so that someone would have to decide to make another category/subcategory to put it in, or to make a new cat/subcat for it to be put in. After your gallery has been placed in a real category, you'd get the neomail confirming your entry. That would cut the galleries they have to sort through pretty much in half I think.

There are too many different kinds of galleries from your drop down idea to work.

Galleries will generally not be picked if they are using a layout they did not make. (A layout from some website) Or if they use edited Neopets images without the Copyright Neopets, used with permission thing.
Galleries will also not be chosen if they are about certain inappropriate themes like drugs.
There's more to that, but I don't remember. Snarkie explained it once at NNN, but since NNN is gone, no more explanation.

The Gallery Spotlight is working fine.

I agree that the gallery spotlight works fine. Especially since I've won it

I really do not think that the Beauty Contest is a sucess....

I just think that there has to be a better way... The gallery submission email gets swamped, and there's many they haven't even read to see if they like the gallery or not...

oh heavens, it would be a disaster for the gallery spotlight to be voted on - it would be right back to guilds and the most popular people getting all the votes, and people would use the submission forms to enter their shops or unthemed show-off galleries. I think tnt picks the gallery winners really well.
