Is the rumour that Neopets is thinking about making the game pay to play true? Because, if you did do that, I think it would make a lot of people quit. - Blackrose3593
We have no plans to make Neopets a pay to play site. Keeping the site free is something that is very important to us. We will offer other services that can give you access to extra Neopets features for a small cost, but these are by no means a neccessary part of playing Neopets, nor will they give you a distinct advantage over other players.
I don't like the "not distinct". It means a bit ... Correct me if I'm wrong ..

I think that they just mean that you get some extra neopoints to sign up with either the premium web pack or the dial up service, and you sometimes get 'random events' in your email. But have never heard of anyone who got more than a codestone! Not really worth it in my opinion. I think the extra neopoints worked out to something silly like 12000np a year!! Not worth the time it takes to fill out the application form!lol

Well, if you plan on being the top avatar collector, you need to sign up with a sponsor to get some of those avatars.
again, Neopets, Inc. is rewarding those with more money and focussing on a higher socio-economic group. The site is already biased towards those who can afford faster internet connections. Their policy has gone from, "No, you will never have to pay to play Neopets" to "You don't have to pay, but check out all the cool stuff you can get if you do!"
I truly am disappointed.

I've heard that the only avatar you get is the "Neomail Addict" one and that is generally available now. It was available there first, though. Other than that, there is supposed to be a slightly higher chance to get an RE and you get 1,000 np a month. I don't really see that as a huge advantage. Besides the higher RE chance (which I don't think is that much greater), I really don't see how it's a bigger advantage.

Um. The only avatar you get from Neopets Premium is the Neomail avatar, which was readily available to all members for FREE.
I'm a premium member myself, and I don't get ANYTHING special at all. No prizes, no avatar, no NP, nothing.

I luckily got the neomail av bfore it was premium. I'd like the higher RE chance to get some refreshing avs that are impossible on dial-up but it isn't worth it

You have to pay for the coco roller av too.

You dont get a higher chance at random events, you just 'very' occasionally get a random event in your email. But as i said before, i dont know anyone who got more than a codestone! Youd be better off saving your money and buying a real plushie instead and using the code for a prize, at least that way you have something to do when the site is down!!lol

i signed up for neopets premium....and so far i think the only things we are paying for are email and a chance to win prizes every friday. it's no advantage.

I don't have the premium service, I can't think of a reason why I'd get it. Don't like the ISP's privacy policy, don't want to be sending emails to my other grown up friends (who don't play the game) with @neomail.com (they'd think I was even crazier than they do now), the portal doesn't really interest me - I have a homepage. Yes, the ISP's cheaper than mine, but too many glitches associated with just about anything affiliated with Neo would stop me even if the privacy issues weren't there.
It really doesn't seem that people who do have the premium are really getting much in the way of "advantages", though it certainly makes it seem like you will from the way it's advertised.
And I just don't see people who have high speed going back to dial up for what may be 1k a month and the occasional codestone or av.

yeah, i'm not doing that 14.99 thing for the connection, just the 4.99 package for email and other various "perks". i don't need to connect through neopets, i have optimum
