Question about Restock Ban

Mon Oct 18, 2004 3:24 am

Hi everyone, having just introduced myself over at the Intro forum I now have a question that Im hoping someone can help me with. :)

2 days ago I finally upgraded my internet connection to 256 DSL , ( It was just so pathetic on the 56K that soon as the DSL was connected I had to try it out.....LOL )

Anyway, I spent 30 mins in the Bakery, got a couple of nice little buys, and then I refreshed and everything was gone, I thought hmm thats strange, and then I went to Tiki Tack where theres always stock and again nothing....

That was at 7pm last night, ( aussie time) and now its 18 hours later and still I see nothing in any of the shops...

My question is firstly..... how long does this restock ban last? ,,, and secondly, are the bans the same in every shop ? ie. am I going to get banned after only 30 mins trying to restock?

Whoa, how much were you refreshing? It takes me 4-6 hours to get RS banned .

RS bans are much shorter then they were awhile ago (were 1 day to a week before). Ususally it takes almost 24 hours to get unbanned. I got banned at 7 in the morning EST on saturday and got unbanned around 3-4 that sunday morning.

You get banned mattering on how much you refresh, so you got to time yourself in refreshing. least, that's what I think.

From a few hours to a few days or even a week if you are unlucky.
Yes, I think they are.
It doesn't matter how much time you restock, its how many times you refresh in a second. If you refresh more than five times or something in a second, you get restock banned. :)

And welcome to PPT!

Thanks for the replies. :)

Couldnt have been 5 times in a second. Its a 256 DSL connection ( so the slowest DSL available over here in AU) and I was just refreshing it each time it came up.... but it would have taken well over a sec to do that, its not that fast to even be able to do 5 times per sec.

so yes, just curious....

If I cant refresh when the page comes back up though and am going to get banned after the shops restock only twice ( which is what happened) , Im better off on my 56k dialup... LOL

It doesn't only happen if you refresh over 5 times a second. You can get it for refreshing too many times over a period of time too. And yes, it normally lasts for 24 hours or so.

explains why I have never been banned.

Thanks to everyone for the replies.... :)

I got unbanned exactly 24 hours later, spent about 10 mins there last night, and didnt go back until just before .... spent all of 10 mins,,, got 1 single thing, and am now banned again.....

This is crazy.. is it just the bakery that is like this?

does anyone know?

thanks again for helping, it really is difficult.. my connection is not that fast and I cant understand why this is happening, since others say they spend hours restocking. how do they do it?

my restocking friend has mentioned to me how he does it, i can't restock for the life of me, but was trying to get the faboo avv *not like i'ld get banned i'm on dialup* but was talking to him about it.

his advice was refreshing on the minute, and not trying to refresh too fast *not like i could do that anyway* i'm sorry i'm not more hellpful, i'll corner him and demand he give me some more advice ;) mind you.. he seems to get banned alot

i have a feeling bakery would be more monitored than any other, because of the sheer number of people who do haunt there, also chocolate and bookstore would be places where they would pay alot of attention :)

offtopic: are you another aussie? :)

Yes, its hard to know why I could only restock for 10 min in total..... never had it ever happen on 56k, ( not that I ever got much....LOL) but this connection is the slowest DSL connection there is... so yes what you are saying about the Bakery being a popular place could be a factor.. 24 hours ban after 10 mins refreshing is very severe though IMO....

ahh to answer your other question, yes Im in Australia.... ( Melb) :)

I just hope none of this has to do with any of the other site problems us aussies are experiencing coz of the McDs /current affair stupidity....... :x

Thats all we need... those idiots to say that 10 min refreshing must be an addiction.....LOL... so we get banned.... Im sitting here wondering if this could be and thinking surely not, but then again, one would think the Fruit machine would be ok too.....

ekkkkkk

The popularity of the place doesn't matter - the system looks at how many times you refresh the objects.phtml page over a period of time, and then if you exceed some limit, you're banned.

Everyone who has been banned one day is unbanned together. So, if you were banned at 5 AM, and someone else was banned at 11 PM, but whoever comes into the office the next day just wipes everyone at 7 AM, then...you're out 18 hours relative to the other guy.

By refreshing on the minute, we mean that the shops begin their restock phase at the zero-second mark of random minutes. So just have one window open to the neopets.com page, and note the clock at the top right-hand corner. Refresh it every so often so you know what time it is.

Then just refresh the shop you want to buy stuff in a couple of times...not too quick, maybe once a second for three seconds or so. If it isn't starting to restock, it's not going to (at least, not on that minute). Come back in 50-some seconds, and start over.
