Snapfish? Eek. Scary.

Thu Oct 21, 2004 2:32 am

Okay, this has got to be the scariest ad I've seen on Neopets yet:

Image

Pictures of REAL humans in an ad that doesn't even go to a sponsor game, but leads to a completely different site? That ad looks like it belongs on... gee, I dunno. Some site other than Neopets. *look of horror*

:o Ugh, I hope there aren't too many of those kind of ads. Why would SnapFish be advertising on a site with such a kiddy reputation? lol o_O

but it isn't just kids who play, may parents play with their kids in order to see what they are up to, and many people play just for the fun of it too. i mean, there are heaps of adult guilds, and many are quite large..

but still it is a little suprising..

That is a bit surprising. I haven't seen one sponsor ad AT ALL yet, but I assumed they would be for sponsor games... Oh well, I don't notice the ads much anyway.

I completely agree with you autechure that adults play. However, it seems like a digital priting company could get more profit by adverising somewhere else. lol

Wow. I've never seen anything like that before. I thought that they only used ads for places on Neopets in the top banner; at least from what I've seen (i.e. The National Neopian, The Auctions, The Merchandise Catalog, etc.)...with, of course, a few Neopets game ads. That's all. I would have never expected them to link to offsite sponsers. I hope Neopets isn't going to have ads like this appear on a regular basis.

It uses the image of a small child and targets parents, its called marketing. The image is most likely to get the parents thinking about pictures of THEIR kids.

notanderson_neo looks like he's one of the beta testers for the new toolbar, and it may be those are the new ads for it :$ not sure if i like this idea. *sigh* guess money has to come from somewhere..

but think about it also, this is a family website, and what do familys do alot, take photos. *although my family is a major exception, never take photos, its only because of my friends i know how to use a camera :P*

Yes, I am.

I mean, I understand paid ads, and I have no problem with them, because that's how Neopets stays going, but usually all ads that link to off-site pages are on sponsor pages or wherever they are. The only sponsor ads I've seen so far in either of the ad places both link to on-site places, usually games. So yeah, that's why I was surprised.

Wow....that IS weird. Snapfish? Hmm....never heard. I hope there wn't be much of these when it..er...comes out.

I hope that companies who advertise with neopets don't figure out how to embed their images with pop up junk. I know I play another site that has these side bars and banners but somehow they've figured out how to get spyware through.

The day I get popup ads from Neopets is the day I quit playing.

Those aren't popup ads. They're the banner ads for the new toolbar coming soon.

And speaking of that, lets keep all banner comments in the appropriate thread. Even if it's getting a bit bulgy ;)
