I've noticed that because of the twelve hour rule, the scores climb steadily during the month, but drop pretty drastically back down on the 1st day of a new month. My advice is to stay on level 33 until the day has just turned, and then do level 34.
It should give you a decent score.
I don't advise going any higher than 33 for this, because you could get asked for a really rare item on 35 and be out of luck.

Illusen scores get cleared every month. So it doesn't matter what level you complete...

I think Chao was implying that if you start on quest one on the first of the month, and achieve a decent score, then wait for the leaders to fall, that'll improve your chances of getting a trophy.

Don't think this works because your score is wiped, too. Starting on level 35 means that you have to find rare items sooner, and will thus top out sooner. Only once did I reclaim my high score for Jhudora's quests, and I don't remember the circumstances behind it.
