Ok, someone explain Neo-Auctions to me...

Mon Nov 29, 2004 10:36 am

In a real-life auction, the auctioneer sets a starting price, someone bids that amount, and then the bidding goes up from there, right? (Ex. - say I'm auctioning my car. I want the bids to start at $10,000. The first bidder bids $10k, and then bidding continues from that price until the auction is over.)

In a Neo auction, a user names their starting price, and then the minimum increment of consecutive bids. But the bidding doesn't START at their asking price, it starts at the first increment value. (i.e. - I'm looking at an auction for a plushie petpet paint brush right now. The starting price is 100k, the min. increment for bids is 95k, but the asking price for the first bid is 195k.)

Does this seem messed up to anyone besides me? Shouldn't the first bid in a Neo-auction be the starting price, with continual bids following the minimum increment?

Thats true. It's always the little things that seem to annoy people the most :P

To make things more realistic, maybe you should be able to set auctions so that they're more like eBay? 0_o

Nah, that'd annoy the heck outta a lot of Auction Snipers wouldn't it? :

lol Well it always bugs the heck outta me when I see something up for auction (like that darn plushie petpet pb!) that has a really low starting price, and then I notice that the min. increment is double that amount. I wanna be able to bid 100k, darn it!! xD

Good, I'm not crazy then!

lol That's a great idea, but I'll leave it to you. I've written at least 50 notes to the Editorial, and none have ever been picked. So if I write about this, we'll never even see an answer, much less a solution to the problem. xD

Well, people set their auction prices according to the auction system. If this were changed you still wouldn't be seeing cheap auctions...

I thought the point of neoauctions is not to bid until the last second. Snipe Snipe snipe
