it's just another beggar...no matter what reason was given. the best way is to totally ignore them once they start begging..i got all sort of begging neomails with different approach.

here's a few of the most recent ones:

Quote:
I NEED NP!! PLEASE

very direct and b0xish

Quote:
need to borrow a faerie queen doll please..i will not steal it because my friends would report me for it.and i wouldnt do that anyways...please....you have 3 and i have none........please...........i beg of you.....i will give you a floud,a wadjet, and a greeble.pleazzz.......i'm desperate....pleaz...........i'm poor.....pleaz........... :)

very desperate

and here's a normal Q&A neomail exchange that turns out to be begging/scamming attempt:

mutt:
Quote:
hello! my name is mutt. i was looking at your shop -which is awesome by the way (ive been trying to get a gallion for a while now! yours is awesome!)- and i noticed a little bug thing. what is a veepsa(i think that is what it is called)? is it the famed petpetpet? please answer. oh, and i love the userlookup- very nice!

me:
Quote:
thanks and yes, veespa is a petpetpet

mutt:
Quote:
WOAH! i didnt think you would respond so fast! you're welcome. now, what do you do with them? sorry, but i'm insanely curious

me:
Quote:
petpetpets are attached to petpets; the same thing as petpets are to pets. however, the petpetpet is attached by refreshing with it in your inventory..

mutt:
Quote:
why would you want to attach it? they would bite them and stuff, wouldn't they?

me:
Quote:
the same reason why you would attach a petpet to a pet.

mutt:
Quote:
hmm... this still doesnt make sense, but thank you. oh, and i love the gallion in your shop. please tell me where you got it?

me:
Quote:
i restocked it from the meridell petpet shop.

mutt:
Quote:
really?! how much did it cost? i love dragons...

me:
Quote:
it costs around 13k but they are quite hard to restock because of the demand. you would have to be fast or else you can buy it from other players for about 350k

mutt:
Quote:
13k? how much is that?

me:
Quote:
13k = 13,000 as 1k = 1000 so 350k = 350,000

mutt:
Quote:
that's a lot. i don't have much money, and i don't even know if my pet will accept it!

blah blah..after some more neomails chatting about my favourite paintbrushes and colour, she finally revealed her intention...

Quote:
do you mind if you send me your gallion? i want to see if my pet will accept it. if it does, ill send it back and send you a present. if it doesn't, i'll send it back and send you a present. sorry if this seems rude. or, we could do the trade thingy and then trade back. i just want to see if my pet will accept a gallion. if you don't feel comfortable doing this, that's fine too!

something at the back of my mind just told me that she's trying to put me off-guard

Oh, mystique, those are priceless. :roflol:

It seems the idiots are out in full force lately. Must be a full moon.

Here's one I just got from someone who has been on since December, 2003:

Brat:
Quote:
hi i was wundrin do u hav ne unwantd items like junk bcoz i hav no np n my pets r dying (this site wnt let me visit soup faerie or giant omelette or play games ) thnx frm pauya

My reply:
Quote:
Gee, playing for 9 months and dying pets and no neopoints? And you still can't figure out how to play the games or go to the giant omelette or the soup kitchen?

Sounds like you are really bad at this game then. Maybe you should think of quitting and finding another game you are better at.

Brat:
Quote:
it wont let me play games

Brat again:
Quote:
look dude - i only asked - i usd 2 b gd at this but got a nu computr n its stuffd up - winy let me do anyfin n im gettn it fixd it was just until i did so cam the ham

Normally, I would just say "No, sorry" but I just couldn't stop myself this time. I wanted to tell her that she should take a class in writing improvement--but I bit my tongue instead.

That's very subtle. Better than the one I got today. Going something like "I see you have the Yellow Knight Stamp in you shop. I want to buy it. Price it at around 10,000 np and I will buy it from you." It's a gallery item as well as unbuyable. I politely told him so.

We should have a Sticky of stupid questions, lame requests, and sorry scams! Just for a laugh, ya know. I think it is quite funny now.

I think on the opld forums we had a scammers sticky. I don't think it was used very much... Or maybe it was... Maybe I just didn't use it very much.

I'm finally back for the summer, although hopefully I'll spend a little more time away from this screen.

actually, i find those direct begging approach to be less irritating than the subtle ones. i find it irritating to think that somebody is chatting you up with another intention. i can't ignore them straight after the first neomail and they clog up my mailbox.

Mystique, I got hit with one of those subtle ones a few months back and I have to agree. They soft soap you and tell you how wonderful you are and then, like a little scorpion, go in for the sting when your guard is down and you are actually feeling sorry for them. After several emails back and forth from such a sweet thing who was down on her luck, I lowered my price from 80K to around 50K on a just released plushie. She bought the plushie and immediately put it into her shop for 99,999. I had the last laugh though--it was a rarity 90 and the price plummeted. She still hasn't sold that plushie. And the going price is now about 35K. Often times, what goes around comes around. Still hurts to think I was so easily duped--by a devil behind a sweet-faced mask.
