illusen's quest has asked me for an UB 3 times at level 32. I just finished level 20 and so far I have had everything I needed in my SDB. (still have not emptied SDB from packrat av) So far I have been very lucky this time. But, with how my luck normally goes, the UB will come even earlier for me this time lol

EDIT: level 21 today was 15k

and i also think that when you fail around lvl 30++ the next time you try again, the lvls gets easier doesn't it? that's what happened to me..

My first quest was an unbuyable. Coincidence, I think. (Don't start thinking that I did that quest)

I just had an Idea. Could you not simply buy every r99 and r100 item and chuck em into your SDB? I mean sure it will cost alot, but afterwards you can just resell em. Also I believe a Jhudoras staff would be WELL worth it considering it's the best weapon in the game.

usually i fail at level 15, because whatever they ask is an item that has just been released... why would i spend 100k+ on that?!

A member actually made an attempt at doing this quite recently. Munsterpoo spent a lot of time and MILLIONS of NP collecting as many r99's as he could. In the end, he had 910 r99's. He made it all the way to Illusen's quest #50, and if he completed it, he would obtain Illusen's Staff, which costs more than 200 million NP - basically the most awesome item in all of Neopia.

Ironically, Illusen asked him for a Fire Faerie Hair Brush, which he did NOT have. He offered a Jade Scorchstone plus a Thyora's Tear for anyone who had one, and unfortunately couldn't find anyone. He lost on Level 50.

I believe he is going to try it again with Jhudora's quests, which are known to be considerably harder.
