I couldn't agree more!!!! And apostrophes in item names, that would be lovely.

The "moichandising" thing is intentional though, it's a joke :P

i remember a topic about that a while back. they were saying that its something with the coding and that they can't put in apostraphees(sp?). at least thats what i remember the gist of it is. youll have to ask someone with a better memory about it

Well....that's true. Some computer languages don't like special characters. However, if you wanted an apostrophe you'd need a special thing before it. It probably varies from language to language. For instance, in java you would use \' to get one. Java doesn't like quotes on their own either becauase it's how you print out lines and stuff.

*nods*

Basically, to sum up. Yes, you can blame that one on coding. But really, yeah, you could put the apostrophes in....but it's just a general pain to do so ;)....unless they code in a language that doesn't allow special characters.

As for proofreading, lol. I couldn't agree more. I've been a peer tutor for about 6 or 7 years now, and it's one of the reasons I hate netspeak. People would turn papers into me with netspeak in it, and I eventually handed them back without any comments if it had that stuff in it. But I'm better about automatically proofing everything I read now ;).

LOL, Morningstar, I got such a chuckle out of your post! I've been a technical editor for over 18 years now. Talk about proofreading - our company does 1st proofs, followed by 2nd proofs. Proofreading has become part of my nature - I find myself automatically proofing newspapers, magazines and books, whatever I'm reading at the time. It can be quite annoying! :P

Sierra, I do the same thing. It is pretty much an automatic and subconscious response.

How can you call a feepit a faellie? Their is NO comparison!

Like "warf" becoming "meow"? Wait, it doesn't make sense, at all.

The point is, proofreading isn't good for your eyes health, and, it's, evil.

Yep.. cant spell. I even sent in a comment on that to the editorial but they didnt see it I guess. :P

I think that the "Moichandising" bit refers to how gangsters in films always pronounce Merchandise as Moichandoise - thus Moichandising :P

Maybe it doesn't bother any of you, but I was a proofreader for a newspaper company for awhile. And, heads would roll if typos were ever found in the published paper. After all, we were paid to make sure the paper didn't look bad.

I'd agree but a while ago there was an item with an apostrophe in it - I forget the name but it was a sponsor item. It obviously doesn't exist anymore because now the shop wiz says:

Oops! - Please do not enter words containing apostrophes.

But for a while it existed and you could wiz search it with or without the apostrophe. Proves it can be done!

Reese's Puffs, you mean? Yeah, that was it. You have to search for the whole thing or it won't work. I don't think that's so much an apostrophe as, say, an accent. A really high accent. :P
