With all the talk of new avaters and the items people must buy to get them almost daily, I can't help to notice the insane inflation of simple items that have exploded in price. Take for example, Scarabug day, it hasn't even come, yet prices for them are inflating like a hot ballon. This is great to see because this let's us know the Neopian Economy is at work, but what if Neo some how severly unbalanced the economy in which a way it would almost be like the stock market crash. How would we, the players, recover? Let's say, there would be a glitch with the Snow Faerie Quest, so instead of having random prizes, some how, it started distributing unbuyable paint brushes, neggs, and so on and so forth. While I know this is would be nearly impossible to happen, it just raises the point of would Neopets survive such a down fall and if one were to happen what could they do to get the economy back on it's feet?

agrees with watericesage unfortunately. If something bizarre like one of the quests suddenly started giving out loads of UB, you know alot of people would start doing quests like crazy. And the "taking advantage of a glitch" freezings would start.

There was the tombola glitch where people could keep going back over and over, I know people were iced for that. So "glitches", though most of the time happen due to something a programmer did or didn't do, have a direct and sometimes dire impact on the players (and the economy if there's too many of any item, even codestones, around).

Heck, they're still freezing people who are unknowingly buying something like a duped dubloon and use it for training their pet. So many people, me included, still aren't buying from user shops/tp/auctions. That impacts on the amount of np going through the site which in turn impacts on the economy.

The neo-economy is, IMHO, in kind of a strange place at the moment. So many things are completely out of the reach of most of the players. You've got to be really rich, really lucky, have friends with the pet/petpet/petpetpet willing to lend (and that can get you iced now) or, for those not willing to work/don't want to wait and see if they get lucky - cheat. Whether it's an ab or other program, duping items, whatever.

As long as there are super rare/retired items and very expensive items, there's going to be what I can only call a "class war" for lack of a better term - people just starting out, with older/slow computers and connections, not hours and hours to spend on the site for the most part just aren't going to get things. When I first started, having around 2 million was considered rich -- not uber elite, but definitely well off. Now? 2 million could be spent in a day for just one avatar.

The neopian economy is the most bizarre fantasy ever created. Fake money to buy fake things for fake pets. YAY! I do not think the system would ever fail unless everybody stopped believing in it. But the same thing could be said for the Almighty Dollar.

The real life economy is quite similar to the Neopets one... for example if everyone found out that a new ultra cool download is available on a Nokia N-Gage phone, ppl would properbly flock to get that phone for the sake of the game. Same theory. :D

Still freezing? I wonder what abt those pple who used the paint brushes to paint their pets? I guess i will have to wait very long for my reply from them since it's most likely that they are flooded with mails.

Anyway back on topic, if the economy crashes, it will slowly gets back on it feet. After a massive freezing of accounts.... With valuable stuff stuck in there forever in freezing might help bring the economy up
I don't think neopets will do anything to "help" the economy, other than maybe making another avatar which requires a paint brush. :(

Anyway, we know nothing is impossible. We might just see another big glitch sooner or later.

I can't believe that they are going to freeze you for a friend giving you an item. That's ridiculus.

Actually yes, Iceland is supposed to be a very nice place :)

As to the freezing? A few people have been frozen for "lending" a pet for an avatar (either the pet itself or aged petpet).
