I've just had a problem with them ever since White Ona. =/ They always ruin stuff.

I first bought one and gave it to my hissi. Then I bought two at 2k and sold one at 5k, forgetting about the one in my gallery until this morning. That one I sold for 16k. I usually miss out and kick myself in the long run for not buying something. But scarabugs were dirt cheap, and even at 17k were still cheap for petpets. Maybe I'd feel bad if it was something like a zomutt or gallion avatar where inflation would reach into the hundreds of thousands, but it wasn't so I don't.

I wish they'd make an avatar where you needed to talk to your petpet. I never used the feature after it was first released and it'd be neat to scream "GIMEE AVITOR NOW!!1!!" and get one.

I had a feeling it would be a clickable after that fire blumaroo avatar. I only bought one scarabug (for 1NP) and I'm keeping him because he looks cool.

If it hasn't already been pointed out, the scarabug you look up for the avatar must be aged

After that Moach thing, when I managed to earn 150k, I don't think I'll ever be able to click past hoarding a possible avatar item. Oh well. Didn't even lose that much this time.

My assumption is generally that hoarder-hating = sour grapes.

My general policy with potential avatar items is to sell enough to at least break even AFTER the avatar is found on the server and BEFORE the news is synced, in case the avatar turns out to be clickable. So in the end, while I only made a few thousand NP off the Scarabugs (should have sold a few more before I went out for the day, oh well), I didn't lose any NP. Not bad given that the cheapest I bought one for was 6k. Essentially, IMHO, the safest way to make NP off avatars is to be an early hoarder selling to late hoarders. (Of course, this only works if you're an early hoarder...)

If you buy enough, and buy early enough, sometimes one can make a considerable profit even if the avatar turns out to be unrelated to the item. IIRC I did pretty well off the Achyfi avatar even though it had nothing to do with Achyfi in the end.

I don't hate hoarders. And theres nothing wrong ( against rules ) with hoarding. Still I don't like, weather it's avatar related or not.
Although after they find out that they bought 50 somethings for 5k-10k each for nothing, and cry about it, they have no one to blame but themselves.
