The American comment...I think that's very true. We used to have some saying similar to that in band (and yes, I'm an American, just living in Japan at the moment). Oh, and btw, I haven't really seen anyone obese here. Reasons? Probably because there are tons of people walking/riding their bike to the store, school, etc. It's been totally different having to rely on my bicycle for transportation.

Besides *advertising* on the computer, maybe it's the computer itself that is causing some problems. I'll admit, I spend a lot of time sitting at my computer each day. But I guess part of the theory is that back in my parent's day (and even in mine, when I was really young) they didn't have all this virtual entertainment like huge TVs with 100 channels, fancy new gameboys, etc. If they wanted to do something fun, they played kickball, or ran around outside, or rode their bike. Now the options usually are watch tv, play on the computer, play video games, etc. Kids like this fancy technology (heck, I like it, too!), and are living a more sedentary lifestyle than kids used to in the past.

I'm very underweight, about 20-25 pounds UNDER what I should be. So this crap about neo making kids fat is crap. I spend lots of time on neo. I'm not fat. It's an untrue statement.

I'm not hating on over weight people, either. They are likely genentically big, like I'm genetically small. You can't blame an internet site for that.

You can't go around saying that kids are fat because of advertising.

Seriously, if anyone advertises a casino, you can't blame it for gambling problems.

If you see a cigarette ad in a magazine, most of the time you can't blame the magazine if someone gets addicted.

It's all a matter of choices. If you CHOOSE to go out and stuff your face with fat every day, you are going to have health problems. You can't turn around and blame it on someone who "advertises" fatty stuff. You need to take responsibility for your own actions. Period.

Yes, because those same children who are young enough to believe McDonalds is "good food" are driving to McDonalds, walking in and purchasing the food with their own money. Their parents have no control over this.

NONE! It's an epidemic!

Hahahaha...EXACTLY! Parents have no control over what their little kids eat....better take away their computer so they won't have to be worried about happy-meal eating pets, plop them in front of the TV and let the 1000+++ McDonalds commercials do *that* job instead. I could understand if my pets said *this* when I fed them a "sponsor-food"....

.....but that isn't exactly what's happening here, is it? ;)

ROFL!

I went to McDonalds to get the neopets happy meal toys almost every day.
I am still 110 pounds.
If anything I'm underweight.
Alot my computer is on the top floor and the kitchen is on the bottom floor.
So I get alot of excercise running down there.
Neopets isn't why people are overweight.
People were overweight before neopets.

Me too. Well, I spend lots of time on the internet in general. See, when I'm on the computer, I'm too lazy to get up and look for something to eat, so that's why I'm all skinny and such. :P

That article is crap. Advertising isn't to blame here. It's the parents. Their stupid genetics make kids fat, and stuffing their kid's faces full of food that's practically lard is to blame. The parents are spoiling their kids too much, not making sure they eat all the good foods, not making them go on a diet. Instead, they decide to blame their kids' problems not on them, but on other things, including Neopets.

Stupid people shouldn't be allowed to have kids. ._.

I still eat a ton.. And I'm very very thin.. It's all genetics. If genetics make people very underweiht, they can be very overweight for the same reason.

What else is new? People in America have extreme difficulty admitting they are the problem. They always like to blame other things besides themselves.

IMO, it's 100% the parents fault. Like mentioned before, it's not like the kids are driving to McDonald's to stuff their face with greasy fast food, it's the parents. I think the media is nothing to take seriously. It's just a bunch of people who like to write and criticize at the same time. Blasted freedom of the press...

No need to poke fingers at America like that. I get enough crap for being American already.

I wouldn't have made that comment if I wasn't an American myself ;)

I think advertisements are there to raise the awareness of their products and to attract your desire and your money. However, in the end the decision is yours to make. Wise choice or bad choice, you're the one who has to face the consequences.

If neopets are to blame, we may as well switch off our TV and radio. Even better, cut all ties with the outside world so you won't be influence in your choices.

...When Mcdonalds had the promotion, I bought just the toys. If they wouldn't sell me just the toys, I bought the happy meal, and trashed it.

Mcdonalds is garbage. I'm sorry, but I'd say only the already obese eat Mcdonalds (sorry if this is general, but I'm refering to my brother in-law who is 350lbs and still eats mcdonalds)

Also, I don't buy the mcdonalds food on neopets, because its about 6,000 neopoints. :P I feed my pets omelettes. Nuff said!

I have all the ads blocked so I wouldn't know. :D But before I blocked them, I don't remember a lot of advertising for food products.

Ironically we can't blame the children for making poor food decisions. We always have to blame someone else.

EDIT: oh and by the way, I love Mcdonald's and I'm not overweight. . .but I also exercise a few times a week.

Very general... I'm about 20 lbs underweight and I eat McDonalds french fries every other day. :P

I don't even like McDonalds food. It makes me sick...bleh.

Besides, things like Neopets and Cartoons aren't always the one to blame for kids eating too much junk food and getting fast as a result.

what about the kids that are fat that DON'T play neopets?

i was chubby as a kid, but i didn't start playing until a few years ago. what then?! who should i have blamed?

:> really. i think that people should stop with the victim thing, it's not neopets' fault that some people choose to eat big macs every day.

I'm sure toddlers can read the text on the items they feed to their pets and know that it comes from McDonald's. ;)

Well, to be honest, I do think that TV, computers, and the Internet in general are a factor in increasing rates of obesty among children and adults. The more time you spend sitting on yout butt, the more likely you are to gain weight. And these days we have more and more activities that encourage us to sit on our butts.

Mind you, while I weigh a bit more than I'd like, I'm not overweight. If they published an article on grad students whose dissertation progress is impeded by wasting time on the Internet, they'd have my number, though. :-)

Maybe I should get off my computer and go for a walk, now.
