Its a shame people put so much stock in account age....I've seen many 30+ month accounts posting spam and chain letters and giving wrong advice in the HC.

Then again anyone who ridicules someone based on the amount of time they've invested in a virtual world is just...sad :(

In these days you can't trust everybody, but seriusly, now is even harder to get into unused accounts, because of the security code, so hackers have to rely on the easiest thing: creating new accounts. That is why soem people doubt more from the newer than the old ones.

My account is memoryofmark. It's 2 months old now. It's amazing how many people on the NeoBoards go, "wel wut du u no!1/?// dis iz no agens rools u nubie!11!!" because of how young the account is. ;) I've been on Neo since December 1999. I hate it so much when people think I'm stupid just because I have a 2 month-old account. -_-

I don't use the same name here as everywhere else, so, that's why I don't use my avatar/sig set.

Unless I used my backup one.

I was asked various times if I were a monitor during the Hannah plot. Reason. I own ValintheQuick the Mynci. ._.;;;

But, yeah, I seem to be screamed at more often whe 'm on my 1 month old chatting account

In the past, I've created new accounts when I wanted more pets. I've transferred NP and items to them. I painted the pets in that new account and gave them petpets.

As was my custom, I snuck on to the neoboards to answer questions and send items to people who were being considerate. If memory serves me, I received a large number of rude, accusing neomails, saying that I must be a hacker because my account was new but well established. Even though I stated in my userlookup that I'd played the site for years on other accounts, but people were quick to ignore it.

I was just reminded of this because yesterday, someone in the Help Chat made a board calling another user a liar because they had a 3 day old account and claimed to have a baby paintbrush. The user, who had the Hidden Tower Avatar (which can only be obtained by purchasing something from the hidden tower) and a baby poogle, came in to defend herself. She mentioned that she had received many threatening and rude neomails about her new account with nice pets.

Do you make bad assumptions about people with wealthy, young accounts? Have you ever been harassed for it yourself?

Yep all the time, got a baby kau in under two months.

Ugh, I see this all the time on the boards. The "you're a new person (put word these rude people use here), you don't know anything" or "You're a hacker/scammer/ab'er because your account's only (how many days or weeks) old and you have (whatever is making them insane).

I'd like to say that it's other newer players who have this mentality (like up to 6 months and haven't figured out that people DO start new accounts and transfer stuff), but it's not. I've seen plenty of 3+ year old account members having fits, pointing fingers and name calling.

I assume nothing ... if someone posts on a board, I read the post. If they're using awful spelling/chatspeak and asking certain questions then I'll guess they truly are new to the site. If I can decipher the post (not always easy) I'll try to help them. If I can't I just move on.

Then there is the .... you're not new to the site, but you're new to a particular board or part of the site. you can get the same or worse treatment. I get called names at least once a day right now cause I'm new to the BD. And my account's about 2 years old.

There is IMO a sense of heightened tension on the site. There's alot of craziness, short tempers, warnings, freezings and downright meanness going on. Someone was mass reported as an ab'er last night and was frozen based on a faked ss. Why? Because the other person didn't get the RS they wanted, this other person did. So got all their friends together and reported.

I'd say to keep a low profile, block neomail except from neofriends, and once you have the list of the people you want there, to block those requests too. As far as giving something to anyone, do it quietly and only to people you know and who may know you on your new account.

My account is 40 months old and I get harrassed for just having a Silver Shoyru with decent stats! o.O

People are just jealous, that's all there is to it.. they see someone else doing better than them.. they see someone else with something they want, and then they suddenly ASSUME they are cheating and whatnot.

It's sad, really.. -.-

*RANT MODE*

Yes, I hate, hate, HATE how people will judge others just because they haven't been on Neopets long! I've been called a New Member and what not several times myself.

When I see people on the neoboards calling people names just because they aren't a "l33t" player that knows everything, I get to thinking, "What the heck is wrong with these people?! It's like they're thinking,

'Hah hah hah, this person has only been on 2 weeks while I have a 35 month old account! This player is obviously not as good a person as me, so I'll just berate them like the lnsignificant apes they are!'"

Because, of course, these people NEVER asked for help themselves on Neopets before; they just started their accounts and voila! They had 10 million neopoints and four pets with rare colors!

Now I know of course not all the older accounts do this; MOST of the oldbies I've seen are actually nice to newbies. It's just that little smug minority that smurf me off so much! :x

For some reason, things are the opposite for me. People treat me like an ignorant newbie. I got a light faerie quest, and went on the quest boards for help. I simply asked for the shop's username, and people kept offering to buy me the item, and even after I declined, they sent me the item. o.o Quite nice of them.

Last week

Someone I dont know was slandering my name on the boards as I was snowager blasted when the avi came out.

I dont have it but thats here nor there and then she as saying I was a bad neopian I didnt care about my pets, I should be banned and frozen and such simply becuase that mean ol faerie wasnt healing me and I wasnt about to pay for it at 6 in the morning.

I never saw so many people telling someone to shut up but its people like that who can really make someone upset.. and to top that off I have 700 war points war alone can deplete you to no health, why cant some people mind their own business>

And this is why I rarely use the neoboards :)

My wife however, once went onto the newbie board when she was 2 weeks old, and said that she'd got a disease from the wheel, and 4 people not only offered to buy her the cure, but actually did buy it and give it to her.

While there is no excuse for rudeness. There is also some argument that neopets themselves are fostering this attitude. The way they freeze people for being scammed as well as scamming is creating ill will. How many of us are trying to avoid situations which might jepordise our accounts and pets? The mulitple accounts rules have been less than clear and it makes people suspicious. Or should that be nervous? When you can lose an account and never really find out the reason why it only makes sense to be cautious of others you only know online. :(

this is why i have a "dont ask to be my neofriend unless i know you" clause in my userlookup.
it seems to have stopped much of the spam i used to get because of my krawk (maxamilion_sprocket) i do still get the odd person, but one quick block later an im good.

I know after my second account was hacked, I knew my way around Neopets so within a month I had the full lab map (this was possible by a few lucky finds ;) ). One of my pets changed color twice and a few members in my guild questioned me about it. I didn't find it rude but personaly, I don't look at the age of accounts because with all of the people getting hacked and frozen these days, more and more players are setting up multipule accounts.

Excellent point - the lack of an image in one's signature (that in most cases someone else made for them) is usually reason enough for most members to totally ignore your post. Isn't herd-mentality a beautiful thing?

This is exactly why I have a current request on the sig request board. Why don't I have a sig? Because I had no clue what I wanted on it. But yeah, I finally posted on the petpet matching thread, got one response matching pets, then didn't get any responses when I requested people's opinions on pets I matched for my kau myself. Maybe people are busy, but...I don't know. I think I get ignored a lot because of the sig thing, or maybe because I'm still new. We'll see if things change after I have a sig.
