Hmmmm.. shouldn't this be a reportable offence because in a certain way it is about religion, some way or the other??

I'd disagree with you here, but that isn't really a point to raise on the general chat board. I would say Santa shows the lack of religion in Christmas, but *shurgs*

Fidds, if you see any more people like that, please PM or neomail (ariaofgrace) their username to me. That really isn't on, and I need to have a word with them. How would you like it if your dreams were dashed.

However, that said, I think that even if they are told that Santa doesn't exist, if they truly believe, it wouldn't matter. If you tell a religios person that God doesn't exist, then they would disagree with you.

Edit: Okay, now people are just weird. This is the first time I've gone on the neoboard in ages, and it's just... Urgh...

And who on earth is Ian?? o_O

No sorry, i was not making myself clear, i do not mean a relation between santa and catholism, or whatever religion, most certainly not (i come from a country where most of people are christians, and do celebrate Christmas but Santa does not visit us), i meant to say that believing in Santa actually could be viewed as a form of religion.

Lots of people lie about their age to gain access to the neoboards.

i think the kid should be reported for being underage. lying is wrong.

and i'm glad some people on the neoboards know that lying is wrong, and are attempting to spread a little truth.

honestly, why do so many people condone lying to children?

The sooner they find out it's a lie, the less it's going to hurt when they find out from their parents however many years from now, and the less it's going to hurt their pride when they realize that they still believed in some fake thing when other of their friends knew the truth.

Of course, I don't think people on the neoboards should be breaking the news to them, it's the parents job, so while I don't condone telling kids Santa doesn't exist on the neoboards, I also don't condone telling kids about Santa either. I grew up knowing that Santa was just a story and hey, it's like my dad said to a co-worker, I'm 18 and I still get really excited about Christmas. Plus, it's so much cooler knowing that your parents are buying you the presents, because it makes you feel more loved.

But whatever...

I have never been told Santa was real, but I don't mind other people believing in him. I have never been told because if I knew I was lied to on something like that, how could I be sure I wasn't being lied to on others? But I agree that it's mean for them to be so blunt.

And anyway, it's not a good idea for that kid to be on the Neoboards anyway, but what's to stop him/her?

Oh my goodness, yes. They're (the people and the boards) awful! The only boards I ever go to is the Guild or Premium boards.

Wow, if you didn't like people saying Santa wasn't real on the neoboards, then you'd really hate what I've said on occasion when I ran into those topics.... *slinks away silently*

My parents never told me Santa was real -- but they did tell me to let other kids believe in him if they wanted to. Personally, I think it's wrong to tell kids Santa exists -- sure, it's nice for them to believe in "the magic of Christmas," but when they eventually find out their parents have been lying to them for years about this HUGE thing, that's going to shatter the complete trust they're supposed to have in their parents. However, I know it's not my business to butt in, so I just ignore topics like that. Let their parents do the lying and the truth-telling, and they can deal with the fallout.

I'm kind of torn on this one. No, I don't think it's in any way reportable, unless people are being really harrassing, name calling (we know the names) - things like that you can be reported for. Not for saying Santa isn't real.

That said, I don't like that people are being mean and coming down on some poor kid's head over whether or not Santa is real. Or anything else. It's become quite trendy to be as rude and obnoxious as possible on some of the boards ... people even have things saying how rude they are in their siggy, or how many accounts they have frozen for harrassment - and are proud of it!

It is up to parents, regardless of what they tell their children - that Santa's a story, a myth, he's real -- whatever. These days, to be honest, I'm almost surprised anyone over the age of, say, 7 or 8 actually would believe in Santa, the Easter Bunny, etc. Between television, movies, friends and the internet that sense of suspending reality and believing in something magical is fast disappearing.

I remember my brother coming home from school crying his eyes out when he found out from his classmates that Santa wasn't real. Darn near broke my heart. I always knew there wasn't a Santa. But he did believe and we (my mom and I - I'm 10 years older than him) decided to let him have that for as long as possible.

Hmm... well, if they're 10 years old:
a) They're lying about their age, and I feel no sympathy for them being exposed to material appropriate for an age they're claiming to be
or
b) Their parents sent in a consent form, in which case, they would probably be monitored better than that...

That being said, I wouldn't really know, but isn't 10 a little old for believing in Santa Claus? I would imagine that by that age more mature classmates would have educated them otherwise - anyways, by the time you're old enough to be surfing the web...
I don't know... personally, I never celebrated Christmas (so, obviously, never believed in Santa), but I think my parents told me not to tell other kids he wasn't real. I have to admit that I've never really understood how a parent can in good conscience spend the first few years of their child's life lying to them... I mean with the tooth fairy, my parents told me the story and joked about it, but I always knew it was them. I still got the 'magical' feeling, and I never had to feel betrayed.

So, honestly, it may not be the nicest thing to do, but I definitely don't think it's reportable. Maybe I'm missing some perspective on this, though.

I think that is really mean! I mean is how do THEY know that Santa is NOT real? Just becuz they haven't seen him doesn't mean hes not real! I personally think he is real. Just becuz I haven't seen him doesn't mean he's not real! After all, all of my presents say from Santa and I believe! It gets me mad when mean people like that decide to tell little kids what to believe in! :x .....okay *calms down* :P
