I was wondering how you are able to do that. I think it would be really helpful. I run spybot & adaware every few hours & at the end of the day I clean the temp files & cookies. That seems to help a bit.

Mxytdvc, I have heard from other people that the adblocker does block the ads from being seen and the white space, but it doesn't actually block the ad from d/l in the background. I don't have firefox, so I can't say for sure.

I noticed it wasn't blocking the ads when it wouldn't load certain pages, or took a long time to load pages. I saw it was trying to load some page for an ad. That's when I used the firefox list all blockable elements, block it, and then refresh it.

Tried the css thing for IE - that wanted to work. Unfortunately for some reason it kept crashing my IE, so I took it out.

It's probably because the instructions you have are messing with the real functions of other websites. It's very unfortunate they decided to put the ads in their own frame, because it just isn't too fun ;). I'll look into seeing if it can be blocked for only neopets.com, that might stop IE from crashing so much.

My main account I do have premium on, but I'm not going to (and couldn't afford) it for my other account. It is SO much slower with the ads, I'm on dial up, have my privacy set to not accept third party cookies, I'm constantly getting an Active X page - something's trying to d/l from a banner ad - partner-source is in the view source for that page.

I let my firewall take care of that. It's just awfully annoying, isn't it?

My roommate plays on Neo, much less than me. She works a long day, and likes to go on the site, do whatever - I think just plays with her pets and plays some games. She's about ready to quit. The banner ads are getting to the point where they're interfering with her being able to play some games. The internet is just locking up and she has to keep rebooting. This did not happen pre-banner ad. Like she says, she goes to Neo to destress from the day, relax and have a little fun. But anymore going on the site is becoming more and more stressful. I even offered to buy premium for her for her birthday this month and she said no, that she's not on the site enough to justify the cost. I don't want her to quit, she doesn't really want to quit, but she's just about had it with the ads.

I feel her pain. I play neopets when I'm at work (I'm a bad girl), it's normally the only time I can get a few hours to play NeoQuest 2. It takes forever to load, and thankfully the settings on the work computer don't allow anything to be installed, or I'd have spyware problems. It's gotten to the point where I just bring my computer in so I don't have to deal with it (and the restrictions on the work computer, I don't like having shockwave and flash disabled, because you can't access a lot of websites).

Plenty of other sites have the larger banner ads and none of them slow down or crash my internet like this - just Neo. I don't understand it.

Some do, some don't. I blame it on poor coding.

this is off the top of my head and I cant check on the computer I'm currently on because access is restricted..anyway, if you're using IE go to Tools>internet options..click on the privacy tab and go to advanced..a small box will pop up, check override cookie handling. For first party: check accept, for third party check prompt. Check always allow sessions. thats it!

For IE cookie handling:

Go to your Internet Options, click Privacy
Then Click Advanced
A second little window will open - put a check in Override Automatic Cookie Handling, check First Party Cookies - Allow
Third Party Cookies - Block
Put a check next to Always Allow Session Cookies
Then Click OK

Here's a not so good ss of what it basically looks like if you have privacy, advanced clicked - having the 2 windows there. It will NOT stop all spyware, etc., but it really does help. Along with spywareblaster, spybot s&d, ad-aware, CWshredder, and McAfee.

I run scans every night - I also clear all cookies and temp internet (including off line) after any site I visit.

So I know the lag that we (me and my roommie) are getting on Neo is not from having a computer full of "junk".

That was true for the older versions of AdBlock, but no longer. The latest version allows you the option of not downloading the advertisement at all, or of just hiding it. If you go to Firefox's site and look at the FAQs for AdBlock, you can read all about it. The actual preference options are: 1) Hide Ads, or 2) Remove Ads...

Looking to buy Snowbunny Stamp and Sticky Snowflake Stamp. If you're selling, please PM me!

Oh I have that version. If you use the remove ads, it's only the ads in the list, and not all of them ;)

Yeah, you have to add a line for each company... I had to add Realmedia, burstnet and tribalfusion lines, because the ads were loading in the background and making my computer very slow (with burstnet sometimes pages wouldn't even load):

http://www.burstnet.com/cgi-bin/ads/*
http://network.realmedia.com/RealMedia/ads/*
http://a.tribalfusion.com/*

Now they're blocked entirely from loading.
