Exactly, like people keep saying, if you see an inappropriate ad simply alert them about it. People have done that, and they have shown us the e-mail reply they have recieved from TNT.

They have always been appreciative of you alerting them of these inappropriate ads and are pretty quick to get rid of them.

Alert. wait. Poof.

Viacom isn't responsible for the ads, the ad companies neopets use are, or neopets itself is. Also ads are sorted by age group and location, ads like that along with credit card ads and insurance ads are only shown to over 18 accounts.

So yeah, report the ad and the ad gets deleted :)

Well, I'm on 13-17 and I've seen similar ads, as well as birth control ones etc. on neo.

Then like I say if it's inappropriate then alert them to it and they'll get rid of it. If they don't think anyone is offended by birth control ads (not that I'd imagine many would be) then they won't be dealt with. Ads are supposed to be targetted by age and location, if they aren't then they're only too happy to deal with it. If they are told.

OK, I have said this before in the past and will say it again: Ultimately Neopets is responsible for those ads. All ads on the site. And, I don't give a smurf for any justification about it being a third party company doing the advertising or that the ads will "go away" if Neopets knows about the ads.

Neopets entered into a contract with whatever company that is putting these ads on the site. Therefore, their "lawyerbots" should have had enough sense to put something in writing into the contract that no sex, no breasts, no condoms, no X-rated crud would be shown on the site. And, then Neopets, Inc. should have hired someone to check the ads before they were shown on the site. I mean, really, how smurfing hard is it to check something like that before it is shown. It is sloppy management on the part of Neopets. Very sloppy.

And, if they were smart, they would make darned sure that none of this crud is floating about when the big McDonald's promotion kicks off. Because, as a parent, I do know that if I saw breasts hanging out of a bra the day I signed up for a Neopets account (so my little kiddie who is addicted to Happy Meals could play), I would quit the game in a heartbeat.

Oh, and just to clarify, anyone who knows me knows that I don't say "smurf" very often. So, I must really be ticked off.

Tested made this fabulous set for me!!! Isn't it great?

I agree completely that neopets is utterly irresponsible for not checking ads in the first place - I mean how hard could it be to check the ads? There's only a few hundred, not thousands and for such a family friendly site who originally said they would never have banner ads I think it's ridiculous that they obviously cannot be bothered. At the moment of course it is best to report these ads so that less people will see them, but in the long run (and preferably in the short run) neopets needs to take direct action if it wants sponsors like McDonalds to still be interested in them.

Can you imagine if you got a happy meal with adverts for insurance, credit cards and birth control pills on it? Imagine the outrage then. Why neopets thinks it is above protecting it's younger players I have no idea.

How to make neopets wake up to it's responsibilites is the sticking point though, I have no idea how to get through to them anymore :( And to think they pride themselves on taking on board the opinions and views of their players :|

Yeah.

I think Neopets is now in the Great Bubble. You know, the Pokemon/Yugioh/Other Bubbles that many things get in?

The sad thing here is though that Adam and Crew were an overnight success. It took them a handful of years and now it's begging to go downhill as you said Bang.

I've seen the advert again and got the page source so I'm going to report it now.
But yep neopets should take responsibility and check these ads so they don't get on there in the first place.

Does anyone under 16 see the Crazy Frog / Jamster adverts?

The advert clearly says (on the TV at least) that under 16's aren't allowed to download it, as it signs you up to a monthly club at £3 a month.

So if someone under 16 sees it, report it and we might get rid of it

Not to offend anyone (I am part of the group :) ); it seems the smart people jumped when the other fads became bubbles as you call them. The rest of us kept buying pokemon cards and what not... Sell those now? yeah right...

That does sort of make us stupid, but really what matters is most of us are still having fun. I know I'm not buying the cards...

Clearly you've never lived smack-dab in the middle of the Bible belt. Sheesh, if a teacher even mentions birth control they get in trouble. Instead of sex ed, students get taught "abstinence education," which I didn't partake in, because I see no reason to be taught how to abstain. But I digress.

I don't really blame Neopets for missing the ads, as long as they're taken off the site ASAP. It could have been an honest slip-up, not checking into the ad content, but I blame the ad companies more for this. They should have thought, "Hmm, I wonder if 12-year-olds want birth control and dating websites?" and realized that--surprise!--they don't. Therefore, they should have replaced those ads with more suitable ones for the youngsters' accounts, because as we all know children have a lot of power in the form of whining until they get what they want. Then WE would get the boobs and(this is inevitable) male enhancement ads, but at least the kiddos would be free from the annoyance.
As to there being only a few hundred ads to check for propriety, aren't ads constantly being brought into the ad base or whatever? I mean, even with Adblock I still see ads at the bottom of the page sometimes.

Oh, and according to my dork of a boyfriend, you can still get quite a lot for Yugioh cards.

I live in the UK :P Ultimately the responsibilty of ad content is down to neopets alone - they choose the advert providers and apparently don't screen the ads themselves. The advert providers provide to all kind of sites, it's the fault of neopets that they didn't pick a kid friendly ad provider and/or that they don't check the ads themselves.

Ideally I don't want any of those kind of ads for any age group on neo. Birth control may not offend me but it doesn't sit right if displayed on a website I go on which is so innocent in all non-advert ways. It's just too weird.

I'm glad you managed to report that ad princessamy, hopefully it has been removed :)

Yeah, that's really what peeves me off about it. It's not like "ehmegee they're up there and now allt he kiddies will be frieghtened forever." Getting them taken off is not the point. What irritates me is that they were ever there in the first place.

EDIT: Oh, and my sister (in 9-12) and her friend (in 8 and under) both saw the passion.com one too, so that blows the age group theory out of the water, eh?

It's not a theory - they are supposed to be sorted by age and location, certainly many are sorted. But those that are not supposed to be there in the first place are likely not to be sorted correctly either.

But really, I think everything here has been covered - report ads, neo are bad, we can't do anything :| Although clearly I would love it if there was something we could do *huffs at tnt*
