I have to agree with Matt ^^. It seems to me that the it is like a 'statute of limitations' mixed with a 'ignorance is not an excuse' thing going on. Even saying I don't remember is good enough since someone else will remember for you. You can get in a lot of trouble that way if you're not careful.

oh, yeah! I'm not trying to say that such a thing means that anybody is not guilty... rules are rules (like matt, I'm not saying any rules were broken) and I believe very strongly in that. But I was just saying that that's one of the most frustrating things not just about this, but about a lot of things I'VE dealt with recently. It's just that evidence really helps so that people don't make the mistake in the future.

or in the case of murder, people can fight for themselves if they really did nothing :)

Scumbucket was the name of a ghost on the ghostbusters cartoon. Stenchweed just sounded like a good "monster" name to me.

I already tried to ask what the problem was and didn't get a response, I don't know if I mailed the right people.

I wouldn't really associate stenchweed with something illegal. But i'm naieve like that. *shrugs* I really don't feel that it should be an illegal name (if it is indeed the reasoning behind the warning). I'm not sure about who you can email with reguards to your pets name, but good luck with it.

Stenchweed is what we call Skunk Cabbage sometimes (also Stinkweed and Swampweed, Symplocarpus foetidus.) It certianly doesn't seem like a bad word to me. Don't tell me that what Neopets objects to is the word "weed."

You know, it very well could be the word weed ... my roomie was on her account earlier tonight and decided to play a few games (the ones that would load - puter's possessed). One that would is the Puffy word game? I was sitting here in the livingroom, keeping an eye on the computer, not her, just in case it went berserk and was watching her play. One of the scrambled words she tried to enter was weed - not in the dictionary. Neither was sod, which I now know can also have a negative meaning, but here it's what you put down on soil for having a lawn.

I've known people who've had accounts 2 or 3 years old and suddenly found themselves frozen for an "inappropriate" user name. They should just have filters on the pages where you create a user name and pet/petpet names that would stop you if you somehow manage to make up a name that is found to be bad.

Sorry to say this but if it was 'stenchweed' that was the problem, the intelligence and organisation of tnt must be that of a sheep (no offence to sheep) because 'PoppinPills' the Niptor has managed 408 days on neopia, along with its neopet 'ExcedrinAddict'.

Neopets filters some very odd things. I wasn't allowed to name my eyrie Buckbeak (with some numbers after it) because it was apparently inappropriate O.o

Peculiar. But I wouldn't be surprised if "uck" was filtered-- afterall, it's the last three digits of a very naughty word. Times have changed on Neopets though, I remember when you could create a pet named "Sexy_Girl" etc. That got very abused though, as many idiots often flooded the pound with a lot of variations of .. Well. Genders, if you know what I mean. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say the word genitalia here.

I can very well see Stenchweed being filtered out because of the last word. Neopets attempts to make it's community as innocent as it can be, and though you had the right intentions your just another target for said filter.

*Edit: Very nice set by the way. Mae makes me sniffle everytime I see his picture.

Yeah, stenchweed or stinkweed is associated with skunk cabbage or other noxious plants.

I asked snarkie and she said that whatever they found objectionable, they apparently cleared...but my lookup didn't have anything on it that I know of (not even code) and none of the pet descriptions changed. Ah well...

My guess is a crazy parent ran across your userlookup. There are two levels of censorship on Neopets. The first is the automatic censors which outlaw all kinds of words.

sex (Sorry pets do not have genders. They are animals. I remember discussing the secks ratio of grarrls with a neofriend. I got the letters through and we had a fine Neomail conversation. The first pet I created by the way is Rosalita, my female grarrl. I had no idea how absolutely rare she is.)

strip (Try and do a role play where you are stripping paint. A person travelling from a cold climate to a hot one, strips off his winter clothes. You tear paper into strips.)

genocide (I found this out when playing a nasty tax collector who wanted fame and fortune for decimating a bunch of girls with powers. He even had a song that featured the word which I changed to gen-o-side which got past the filters just fine.)

pricker (As in pricker bushes. I just changed it to thorn bushes)

I've run afoul of the mechanical censors and spent a lot of time and energy dodging them. I get warned very little. My last warning was several months ago for outside links. You probably have me to thank for the Google restriction since I gave my outside role playing boards unusual names and played with their meta fields so they will appear on top when Googled.

The mechanical censor is no match for human ingenuity. Unfortunately, a much better way to get warned is to urinate someone off. You can do this easily on the boards. I earned my first warning for quoting scripture to go after a potential scammer who was using charity as a cover. The person who tried to set up a Catholic board on a forum where people were talking demonic stuff, urinated off one of the regulars.

I have participated in childbirth role plays, role plays that involved self mutilation, role played characters with a religious bent, and assorted other social problem role plays. I like the modern genre and historical Medieval so you can see where the religion comes in. I've never been reported for any of this.

User lookups are not writing on Neoboards and Neomail. The whole of Neopets can see them and my guess is you just got unlucky. You can get warned zillions of times and not get frozen and if you get frozen, you do not get banned. You can come right back with a fresh account plus all your human capital intact.

This space for rent.
