This really is a "If you don't like it, don't do it" situation. All you're doing is paying for an @neomail e-mail address, a poor ISP and a nicely organized page. Whoop-dee-doo! Some people may like it, some people won't. Those that don't simply don't have to play it. You're a little naive to think that you can bring it down at all.

Most people on the site won't even have credit cards. If is $35 per month, I'd rather sign up with toontown, runescape and everquest.

You wouldn't have a credit card if you were 6!

Guys, please. The price is not $35 a month. It's already been said once in this thread by Blue Wolf.

Quote:
Get the prices right, people, it's not that expensive. It's 15,95$/month with the dial-up service, 4,99$/month or 39,95$/year for the premium pack and also 4,99$/month or 39,95$/year for the webmail service. All informations at the actual site.

Now, as for the ToS. Except for the part about selling your e-mail to third parties, I don't see anything in there that other major Internet-Based companies haven't done. Yahoo has a user directory. AOL has their white page feature which allows you to e-mail people who have user names associated with their addresses (in their white page search). All major ISPs will do some monitoring of traffic (if requested). I know people who have had their service disconnected because their computer was being used to send out spam mail. So, not much of this is suprising.

My problem with the privacy issue is that it looks like if the RIAA contacted the Neopets ISP and was like "hey, one of your users is downloading music and we want their info," they'd give it up -- something many other ISPs have refused to do. Also, I don't like the bit about how "Provider may make such information [name and other consumer information] available to third parties from time to time" -- basically, they could sell our demographic and probably e-mail info to advertisers. I don't want more junk mail, thanks. And the only way to stop them from selling info is to take out a court order or something.

I wouldn't buy it anyway. I could never use a Neopets e-mail address (I'm 23 and would be laughed out of my circle of friends), and I'm quite happy with my current ISP.

Personally, I think this will make a better representation of the real world. The rich people will be able to afford things they don't need. As for the economy of Neopia and the things I've been hearing about premium package (that they'll get more and better stuff like more REs, etc.), well, it'll be more of a challenge. In fact, I'm thinking we'll see a "rich get richer and poor get poorer" wave hit Neopia. But right now we're dealing with people with Flash editors and auto-restockers and what not... and we're doing fine. I'm sure nothing too bad will happen.

As for the less ads incorporated in the game... as much as I'd love to see that (sorry for those of you tired of hearing me rant ^_^()), I'm sure it won't happen. The money earned would probably go to maintaining the premium service.

I do agree, though, that not many people will sign up for it. As soon as TNT realizes that the costs outweigh the profits, they'll stop it (if they can... they might have a contract with the ISP).

For all we know, Neopets is in financial trouble and might not be able to afford to keep itself running... thus the premium service.

On the other hand, they could just be getting greedy.

Either way, as long as the flash games give out NP, and codestones are ridiculously high-priced, and there's a rainbow over Neopia Central and an Esophagor in the Haunted woods... well, I'll be on the site almost every day, playing Flash games to make money the old fashioned way. Nothing will change that, be it premium services or Red Pteris or...

...well, the Red Pteri might. I know it gets kinda old, but MAN do I hate that thing.

JXPop, if they're offering 2X Random Events and then the 1000 np a month for the webmail... that's not going to make the rich any richer unless they pay for 20 million or so webmail accounts.

In fact, if anything, they'd earn far more money by having a Cable Internet connection.

Think about it this way - Great, these people will have twice as good of a chance of finding a codestone compared to normal people. But I can go and restock a plushie or a petpet and earn 20x what that codestone is worth.

In fact, if anything, you should be complaining about the item codes that come with neopets products, that'd have a better np/money value.

Note: ARgh! My cable connection isn't helping me much right now as I'm being kicked off every 20 seconds! *Rips hair out*

(laughs at premium players)

All I saw listed was the @neomail name, an avatar (which apparently you can already get), the 2x RE, and the Portal service, which seems like it's be useful, but not give someone 1 hundred million billion np.

(blink) I never expected that (though if they did I might consider paying for the pre... nah, no I wouldn't). I just meant that they'd get more expensive items which they'd most likely sell. I never said anyone would get uber rich, I was using the rich-richer poor-poorer comment to make a point. I'd restate that point, but I'm sleepy and forgot it (blink blink). Besides, restocking also costs money, while these people would be making more profit by getting things for free.

Hhmm, how many random events do I usually get per day? Zero--2 times 0 is still zero.

jxpop, you hit the nail on the head. I will play until they make me pay.

EDIT: And, one thing I forgot to mention about this Premium Service. I actually had it on my computer for awhile. Don't know how because I never downloaded that free portal.

A few weeks back, I went to a hyperlink in a word document (someone's email address imbedded in a word document) to send them an email. And instead of my normal outlook express popping up, I got a little gold window with my username @neopets.com to pop up instead. It wouldn't let me send a message--not that I would have wanted to with neopets.com on the end of it. Like, everconfused, said, I don't want anyone to think I am any crazier than they already do.

But, I don't have it anymore. And, the weird part was that I didn't have a window open for Neopets at the time, but had played it earlier that day. Weird, huh? Anyone care to wager that it got there via a "tracking cookie" of some sort?

Last I heard Neopets was making 11 Million (US) a year. I'm pretty sure they have no financial problems but are just getting money hungry, in other words greedy.

After that 11 million is used to pay for the servers, their building, artists, writiers, programmers, and merchandise, they really aren't left with all that much. You make it sound like they are gagillionaires who live in fancy mansions and eat caviare and have pet peacocks... They live in appartments, eat tuna and have cats... They aren't in any financial trouble, but they aren't livin it up in the moolah either.

lol. :) nice. only like 1 person will sign-up for it so it'll be trashed since neo can't upkeep it. And neo is a company. like very other company. it's sole purpose is to make profit. like any other company. anything like satisfaction or anything is just something that will increase or decrease their profit.
