Lol... I've never gotten a scam email, but if I did I'd have soooo much fun with it... Most likely make up a few new accounts, donate all the items/np you start out with to the money tree save 1np, then send them the SN/PW.

Me:
sn: cherribabigurl7795 pw: legolasisahottie
sn: osamayomama423 pw: ilovecamels
sn: depressedgothgurl137 pw: suicidemyonlyescape
sn: paintbrushgallery530 pw: royalmaraquandarigan
sn: chikinmcnugget927 pw: ronaldmcdonald

Scammer:
Aha! Someone fell for my scam! *Logs in* It's the right password! ....What? Only 1np? *Tries next account* *Same thing happens* *Tries again* *Tries again* *Tries again* :'(

He wasted 15 minutes of his life and got 5np

Amazing indeed.. I think that they must have used a spell check program this time ;) I mean, they got only a illegal spelled wrong?! That's a new record for a scammer!

Amazing what one can come up with when one is given a cardboard box and a roll of duct-tape!

oh dear, it's silly how stupid people could get these days...

Shifty and jelly of flight, both of you have your email addresses for MSN messenger listed in your PPT look up. My guess is that there is someone looking up PPT member's emails and trying to scam them. I seem to recall something like this happening a few months back. I believe that is why our Neopet user names are no longer listed on our PPT lookups.

My suggestion is that you remove all info related to anything outside of PPT from your user lookup and block this person's email address.

Yeah, same here, they sent the e-mail that I have listed as my MSN Messenger address. And I got the same exact thing. -_-;;

Definitely. Normally there's at least 3 or 4 important words mispelled... y'know, 'password', 'important', 'sincerely', and 'business.'

Check the bottom of the email closely for the worse typo of them all:

Acount: Bob1234 Password: Bobiscool
Acount: Maryjane Password: 17284

They even messed up with word "account." :roflol:

Proof that it is someone lurking amongst us here at PPT: http://www.pinkpt.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4476

Ibis, who wrote that topic, got the same letter. However, he doesn't have a Neopets account, but does have an email address posted on in the MSN messenger portion of his PPT user look up.

Usually a big company such as Neopets has a email adress like mailto:spoof@soandsocompanynamehere.com where you forward any scams you get from other people.

I don't know if Neo has a spoof@ email but they definitely should if they don't! Ebay, paypal, many large sites do have that and they have staff that just deals with this type of scam.

One of our members here was having a huge problem, and one of the things I told that person was to take all their personal information off their profile - website, aim, im, icq, email, etc. -- anything that could be used to try to scam or hack you.

I also highly suggest that no one use the same name here as they do on Neo or anywhere else.

But I've never gotten any of these fake email scams from Neo either. Yes, I've gotten them via ebay and paypal (that one really worries me - I don't even use the same email for both of those). They do get sent right to the spoof@ email addresses.

One other thing to be very careful of -- the new @neomail.com? People have already been using that claiming to be with the Premium service and that they've selected you to be some sort of tester for the new services and you'll receive special items, np, etc....but you do have to email them back with your information so they can "process" your inclusion in this special test/promotion. And the email is @neomail, not @neopets, not a yahoo, etc.

Bottom line - unless you know the person, feel that you can trust them, don't just have any of your personal information viewable by the public. Only give your email or im to the people you can trust (and there aren't that many any more out there). May sound harsh, may sound paranoid, but they ARE out to get us.

I just want to know, if these are kids doing this, where are their parents? Don't you think they'd be so proud to know that their child is basically a thief in training? And I hope you all know here I mean absolutely no offense to anyone on this forum. I'm talking about these ... won't say here ... who have nothing better to do than try to scam/steal/hack a game site or the players. It just makes me so :x
