Everconfused made a lot of good suggestions. Definitely change your settings so non-neofriends can't send you anything, if you haven't already done so. You may want to update your userlookup to explain a little more about the scammer -- maybe you could devote one of your pet's pages to explaining the scam and talking about how she tries to trick people by claiming she's "testing" them or whatever. Just document and report everything she does and maybe she'll realize that this could get her in big trouble.

Do you know her neopets username? It could be really similar to yours, and that's why people think she's neomailing them from your account. If you know her name, report her, and maybe get some friends (and the other scammed people) to report her, too.

Do you have the letter m in your account name, or an r follwed by an n?

m - r+n (rn)
r+n - m (m)

If you get it. At a glance it's pretty hard to tell.

Ever concider that somebody who knows you is pulling a very tasteless prank? I don't just mean the person who appears to be scamming...but that person may also be the person contacting you claiming to get neommail FROM your account. I have a friend who has a wierd sense of humor and making me worry about my neopets would be funny to her...go figure!

Change the password to your account AND your e-mail, and nobody should have access. Log out thoroughly from both and don't worry!

Copying is the a form of flattery

I really doubt that. Out of those friends of mine who play neopets, they are not cruel enough to do that to me - and insult/swear at me from a copied screen name, plus IM me from about 4 different other ones.

And no, my username is sockology.

I think I will explain on Kre's petpage about the scammer and what she is doing.

School starts in a week...I haven't seen many of my friends all summer. Plus, the curious thing is that this person doesn't chatspeak like a lot of my friends IRL - she just can't spell very well. I just very recently put my screen name in my userlookup, trying harder to prove that it isn't me.

Someone who was scammed by her cursed me out in her AIM profile, and one of the things she said was: "She neomailed me from the account once, saying "See i'm on" it had Kre and her baby lupe on there" The problem is, this person has proved to be rather unintelligent and a bit flaky, so I'm not sure whether or not to trust her.

I know some of the usernames she did her scamming on, but she bragged to me that "no one knows her main account." so "they'll never find her." But no, they weren't similar to mine - they were stuff that I'd never use, like "xx_somethingaboutsnow" or something like that.

I think you should hire an investigative team about this. ;) -hinthintwinkwink- It might help.

I didn't get any angry IMs today or yesterday, so I'm looking at it as a good sign and hoping they froze her main account or she is stopping. Who knows, though. Maybe people are just paying attention to the note on my lookup. --;

I just went and read the thing about the scammer on Kre's petpage, and it's really good -- it gets the point across that you're really not joking when you say you won't sell your pets. Hopefully the scammer saw that page (especially the thing about helping TNT find out her real username) and either got scared off or decided you were too much trouble.

Thanks very much. I'm hoping that's what happened, but she informed me she would 'never stop' - so I'm really not sure. *sighs* Hopefully people just got...less idiotic about the whole scamming thing.

I just found out about one other person who she scammed. I told her to look at Kre's petpage and how no, it's not a joke, she's a scammer many times - but she kept going "Lol ur sucha joker!!!"

edit: She is also telling people that I am a friend who hacked her AIM account.

Any response from TNT yet? Maybe you should write to a couple of support people personally. I know there are addresses somewhere.

What names (AIM and neopets handles) are this girl using when she talks to the scammed people? Include those when you write support, or even post them here -- maybe some of us can help in some way.

Sock,

This is still going on? You're logging any AIM messages with her and sending them in to TNT along with any other names of people who've neomailed you, aim'ed, etc., right? I would also include your petpage url - so TNT can see that this is serious, and you are serious.

If you haven't changed your site preferences yet, I really suggest you do so. I also suggest that you (and anyone else) remove your AIM, MSN, YIM, email, etc. information. That could be how this person got it in the first place - it wouldn't be the first time someone "lurked" or was a member here and got the information just by looking at a profile or a post. It's right there for anyone and everyone to see.

You could try turning your AIM off for the time being too...here's how:

Quote:
A. How To Turn the Instant Message Feature Off:

1. From the People menu (Members menu on earlier AOL versions), click Send an Instant Message (or use the CTRL + I keys). The Instant Message window appears.
2. Type in $im_off in the top box.
3. Type an x in the bottom box.
4. Click Send. Any member sending you an Instant Message note will be alerted that you are not accepting Instant Message notes.

If AOL is your ISP, click the Safety icon, you should be able to contact AOL directly. I don't know how much they can do, as people can change their s/n at will...in this case though, this person really wants to sound/look like you.

I don't know how you would turn your MSN off, but I'm sure there's a way.

I would basically have no contact with anyone - come here, keep us updated and keep writing to support, and refer to your original email if you kept a copy of that. I always copy/paste when I write to Support about anything.

have you ever logged on at school then? because i used to *before they blocked it* and i didn't realise that after you logged out, it didn't actually delete cookies, as i found out when i found someone else logged on when i went to the site in class.

poor you though, and what a weirdo this person is to do something like that. *i would call them something else, but thats not very nice, but i did it in my head anyway* :P

and your explaination is pretty clear, i'm just wondering if now those people will get to see it before she directs them there, after taking their nps.

but the best of luck dealing with tnt about this too :) and i hope it all gets resolved quickly :)

If you see my sanity, get it to give me a call.

I didn't mean to suggest that it was a FRIEND, just somebody that you know.

Non-neofriends can't do anything but neofriend requests are open, but I will only accept people I know. I am on privacy on AIM due to some issues with my ex, so I am fine that way.

However. SupaSockeh - the SN she is using that is like mine - is on privacy. She did this so I couldn't talk to her. The one conversation I had for her was sent to Felicia - if I got the email right. x.x

I got one reply from TNT thanking me for bringing this matter to their attntion and informing me that I should have sent it to Abuse. I thought you had to enter a username for that, though, and I have no idea what her main account is. I already sent one abuse form about one of her accounts.

I got another IM from someone that she scammed, but luckily this person was intelligent and figured her out - only after she scammed her out of 170k as a "down payment." She wasn't much help other than to inform me of two names which were already caught in the act - one iced, one's board was deleted.
