The Word grows venemous fangs and a mouth like a hagfish (go find some hagfish pictures on google if you don't know what it is) and it latches onto your head and suck your brains out. That would hurt you mentally :P

Thanks,but I did.

Words hurt me mentally because they are seriously offending and they sometimes stick to me like glue. It constantly goes through my mind for a few minutes no matter what I do. To sum it up easily,I unwillingly torture myself. Its my weakness and thats known.

that's what i'm saying. hurt from a word is an imagined hurt. not real. if society, and you, would take away the unnecessary stigmas from the words, they wouldn't have all this imaginary power.

So sue me,maybe I'm weak minded.

Just for the record,in my personal opinion, being hurt mentally or physicly,it still hurts.

I could keep this up,but I wont bother because I can never word my feelings properly. Lets please forget this happened.

i don't know anyone, not even my parents, who feel that "curse" words have the power to hurt. i'm trying, especially as a rabid defender of freedom of speech, to understand the viewpoint that "bad" words are somehow dangerous. because i honestly don't get it.

so, if you can explain it well, please do.

if not, then...forgotten.

Its not the words themselves, its the thought behind the words that hurt.

i'm not talking about insults and the like (although quite frankly i think those are pretty harmless too, if people would just learn to ignore them). i mean a casually-inserted "damn" or "hell" or my personal favorite, the F-word. how do they hurt anyone?

Its just the Conspiracy of Parental ratings. I think its just been ingrained into us since our first word that there are "bad words" that people under the age of 13 shouldn't be messing around with. Although I understand that there's nothing really painful about them, I certainly wouldn't want my 7 year old going around saying things like "You're so [expletive] stupid you doodoo-head!" While harmless, there's something a bit disturbing about it. Not to mention embarrassing.

The whole "damn" and "hell" business is probably tied into religion though and I can't see how any nonreligious person would really care about those kinds of words all that much unless such a person is just trying to be uptight or going to a Catholic school *cough*

I saw that and actually didn't notice it at first, since I don't consider that a bad word. I don't consider many swears to be profane, but I do know when it's a bad idea to use them (like saying them now wouldn't be a good idea).

I've met a few people who were offended by swears, one of which I never heard swear (the others all fell into an instant where something happened that caused them to blurt out something...nasty). It's because they're pretty religious people, and they don't see the purpose or need to do so when they can think of a wittier responce that gets roughly the same message across.

Some people (like moi) just find those words a little offensive.
Don't ask why, and don't flame me!

Thank. You. I was going to let this drop like a hot plate, but that is pretty much what I was trying to get at in my own weird way. I am mainly offended by them because of religion.

The other reason they hurt is also because of what you said, mostly. Disliking the words and being hurt by them is simply tied in with my faith. I'm taught that they are bad,so even the slightest hint at them bug or hurt me.

I can't explain it,or much of anything for that matter,so I doubt I even make sense.

Im a kinda religious guy as well as a teen and 1 of those words affends me slightly to hear casually used and another offends me alot.... maybe thats what they are talking about. I am not particularly fond of them cursing either but what am i going to do... report them to the neopets team?

I guess it varies from person to person. A light dosage may be fine, it brings across the idea of the person's emotion at that time. However, if a guy spurts profanity for every sentence he speaks. I would be seriously offended, and thinks that he needs a lesson in graciousness. :D
