I think that there are other petsites that lean far more towards anime then neo. I like having a diversity.
And if neo goes into anime form.

I'm leaving.

Got my vote there :D Anime rules!

I think Neopets has a good balance of cute and not cute. My pets vary in color, I have pirate, fire, christmas, & faerie. Two are cute and two are not so cute. As was mentioned it was originaly designed as a site for kids. As far as stuff for kids and adults seperately, too many kids can easily lie about their age when they sign up for the site and get around any restrictions. I like the site and I'm far from being a kid.

The site could be much worse, as far as "cuteness" goes--anyone remember those Cabbage Patch Dolls or the resurgence of the CareBears?

Boy do I ever. I grew up on the original generation of Care Bears, cabbage patch dolls, My Little Pony, Strawberry Shortcake, and Rainbow Brite. Kinda scary that its all making a comeback.
But then again I also grew up on G.I. Joe, Thundercats, and Voltron
Kinda aging my self there :P

Meeeeeeeeh,I'd be mad if they went Anime style too. Neopets doesn't fit in to general Anime categories.

Then you'd have a few complaining about how,"kawaii" everything is.

Call me demented, but I <3 anime, and wish TNT drew in anime-style. But there are tons of other anime sites out there.

Can you imagine the mob of angry people if neo went to anime?
*shudders*
but then, for everyone who was mad, there'd be someone who didn't care, and someone else who loved it.

*sighs*
I have my personal reasons for disliking anime. And so I won't get into it. But I feel that neopets is far more original without being anime.

ANIME?!!!!
(Sorry about the caps)

If Neopets goes anime, It would be most definite that I would leave the site. Their pets are cartoony, like Kitten Medli said. There's nothing wrong with a cartoony site. Think about it, would you rather have a cartoony site or a anime (twitches, jerks) site? It would be scary if the pets had dimensions and depth. Think about it (again) would their site gain in popularity with kids if it had photos of dogs, fish, etc.? No it won't.

(50th post!)

*shrug* Personal preference. It's the same thing as liking a certain genre of music, books, movies, television shows, etc.

I enjoy anime immensely, but I couldn't say I'd like Neopets to be styled after it. To me, it would completely ruin the whole feel of the site, and it would be odd to play it after being used to Neopets' own style after these years.

On the subject of non-cutesy things on Neo, I'm surprised nobody's mentioned the wonderful Deserted Fairground Neopedia article. Sent shivers down my spine, especially when I imagine the freaks to look like this trading card.

Let's not forget the old Mutant Chia. So disappointed that they changed it.

Wow. That trading card is just...wrong.

Neopets very much appeals to two different levels--like any good cartoon. It appeals to adults with its adult humor (just look at some of those sick email greeting cards, if you need further proof) and, yet at the same time, it appeals to kids--where most of the adult humor hopefully goes over their heads.

And, believe it or not, there are many American kids' cartoons today that do the same type of thing. I invite you to take a look at Spongebob sometime: there is a lot of adult humor in there. Same with Powerpuff Girls (like the spoof they did on the Beatles). May not be great cartoons, but still trying to appeal to the adults. Maybe they realize that if the kids are watching/playing, the adults are probably supervising this watching/playing at the same time, so better give them something to laugh at. Sells a lot more cereal if both the kid and the adult are watching--because the adult has the money!!!!

That's not true, actually -- Neopets was designed for bored college students (Adam and Donna's friends). "Neopia" was originally set up like Dante's Hell, with different levels your pet could live in. And a lot of the old "pets" -- things like the Macy Gray and the Bruce -- wouldn't appeal to little kids. The cutesifying happened later. I agree that some things now are a little too cute (most of the baby pets, and some of the faerie ones, for example), but there are still enough things -- like the battledome, mutant, darigan and robot pets, the stock market, and challenging games and puzzles -- to keep those bored college students entertained. I'm 23 and I still have fun on the site.
