I am curious--why would netscape be considered an unfair advantage? I don't use it--but my daughter sometimes does. I just assumed it was a different method of browsing the internet.

It is. I think dissident was just being sarcastic.

The Opera browser has an in-built autorefresher. Maybe using that would be considered as cheating.

I've known people that have used that for cheating, cause you can turn it off you know. Although, when I had to attach a petpetpet I've been known to use it

Hmm, I don't know 2 of those names, but Alombar is a big long term player with many, many accounts. I thought that person had shops on just about all their accounts (maybe a couple of galleries?) and had them all linked as a "mall". Also was well known on the BD. I just have a hard time thinking someone like that decided to use a "cheat".

Neo's been known to freeze people for the weirdest reasons ... like if you have a slow computer - I've known a couple of people frozen for using a downloadable cheat since apparently there are ways to deliberately slow your computer down (why? geez, I wish mine was faster!) - but they didn't d/l anything ... they just had the misfortune of having an older/slower computer!

I'm sure the rumor mill will be working overtime on this one on the boards if the actual people don't post themselves giving their side of the story.

There have been a decent number of freezings lately actually:( Stay clear of the boards if you can unless (like me) you just go lurk and occasionally just answer a question about something really basic on the site - like where the healing springs are, that sort of thing. Otherwise? Keep your head down and a low profile.

Meh, doesn't matter. I never bought from their shops anyway because as I recall, they were all mega expensive!

Those three people were mall/quest people I think (people who had all sorts of stuff for quests and stuff, for about 1000 over everone elses prices). I couldn't immagine why they were frozen, although going into alombar's shop on dialup is extremely painful

That's a way of cheating for games. I was at my mom's house, and I was using a computer that she had replaced a few months earlier. It was so easy to play Dubloon Disaster. I didn't realize it could be consider cheating at the time since I couldn't control the age of the computer, but I would be more surprized if people haven't been frozen for that. But, sadly, that account was frozen like half a month later when someone joined my guild and then reported his own inappropriate comments. :(

my thoughts are with Morningstar on this issue. I was quite shocked to learn that Alombar42 was frozen for the reason given. If he was frozen for playing on multiple accounts, it could be more plausible; however, he had been doing that for years. he's also possibly the richest player in neopets and given his resources, it is too easy to become even richer without resorting to cheating. his main source of income, from how we look from the outside, is from his malls. hence, he don't restock from main shops, ruling out autobuyers. he has few game trophies hence ruling out cheating in games. refreshers? that sounds absurd because it doesn't give a mall-owner any advantage at all. then, we come to shop wiz autobuyers (if they were any such programs). if anyone looked at the pricing in his shop and know how mall-owners work, they need not buy the cheapest deal on the shop wizard.

my guess would be he was mass reported by some players who dislike mall-owners and think they are cheating. there were some other conspiracy theory like how neopets is trying to even the playing field and stuff like that.

Erm, I would think that a person who earns a lot from his shop gets the items through restocks. Its hard to make a profit by buying from other neopian's shops and selling them for a higher price in yours.

His shop was the biggest on neopets.. size 3000+.. just because of that size, he can price whatever he likes and people who don't know about the wizard will still buy them.. that's how he earns?

IMO, that is not a viable way to earn np. Firstly, the price of upgrading his shop is too high. Secondly, if he priced his items very highly, then most newbies would not be able to afford it, and only newbies don't know about the shop wiz, right? So I believe he restocks too.

that's a viable and actually, very effective way to earn np. if you were to look at the shop history of all these mall owners, you would be amazed by their success. there are a few reasons for their success:

gigantic shop sizes mean malls are placed on the first few pages of all the markets. for example, if you look at the island market, the shop size of the front-runners are all 300+.

surprisingly, there are many players who do not know about the shop wizard or are too lazy to use them. not to mention mall owners, i had on some occasion, had way overpriced item bought from my small shops(those item were for transfers)

Ok, I see your point. But this has been straying too far from the topic. The question is: why were they frozen? o_O

I beg to differ. I don't mean to brag, but I make a ton of nps by reselling. Buying things from people's shops and then reselling those things at the market price. Ask anyone who knows how to do it well and they will agree. In fact, check out gooberticket's userlookup sometime. He has a mega-sized shop and his motto is "Buy low . . .sell reasonable."

Every one of the 605 plushies in my plushie gallery was bought with nps earned from reselling--so, I think I am pretty good at it. You just have to know what to look for, have a decent amount of capital, fast fingers, the ability to be patient, and like the shop wiz.

EDIT: And, what I have seen in many reseller's shops (though I would never, ever do so myself), is that they will have one type of negg or map piece so that it is the lowest price on the wiz and price the rest at absurdly high prices. With the hopes that the people who come into their shop will buy one of those high priced items as well.

Scenario: The naive or new player sees the one map piece as the cheapest on the wiz, goes to the shop to buy it, looks at all of the other map pieces in the shop, says "Gee, this person has all of them. I will buy the rest here," and pays triple price for the rest of those map pieces.

Isn't there a downloadable programme that searches the user shops and buys cheap items? I heard someone say once that they though hrobi was using that, as he accidentally priced 50 codestones at some ridiculous low price and in 5 seconds flat she had bought all of them, before his page had even loaded and given him the opportunity to fix the error.
