I was just on the neoboards, and I saw three or four people attacked for being "n00--." All of these people were simply hanging out on secondary accounts and two of them even had links to their main accounts in their userlookups -- didn't make a difference. Other people on the board didn't like what they had to say, so they automatically got namecalled.

People on the neoboards are so rude. I'm always tempted to post with my 51-month account and tell them they're all "n00--" compared to the oldbie players, but a) that's mean and b) I don't want to risk getting reported and frozen. ;) Besides, being a "n00-" has nothing to do with the age of your account; it's how you act. I've seen some 30+ month people I'd still stick under that category, and some literal newbies who don't act dumb or rude.

It's probably because you're still relatively new. I didn't get a lot of responses until I hit probably the 200 post mark -- simply because this board is so busy and it's hard to get to know who people are until you've seen a lot of their posts. I think sigs/avs also help you get noticed more because they're so much more recognizable than usernames. It's probably more of a recognition thing than a snobbery thing; I find people here pretty accepting of new posters as long as they're nice and make good posts. :)

Excellent point - the lack of an image in one's signature (that in most cases someone else made for them) is usually reason enough for most members to totally ignore your post. Isn't herd-mentality a beautiful thing?

This is exactly why I have a current request on the sig request board. Why don't I have a sig? Because I had no clue what I wanted on it. But yeah, I finally posted on the petpet matching thread, got one response matching pets, then didn't get any responses when I requested people's opinions on pets I matched for my kau myself. Maybe people are busy, but...I don't know. I think I get ignored a lot because of the sig thing, or maybe because I'm still new. We'll see if things change after I have a sig.

I have been on PPT since June 2003 and I didn't have a sig or an av for almost a year. In fact, I only got this av/sig set because a friend made it for me (without my asking beforehand). Anyone who knows me knows that I don't really care a hoot about looks. It's not the fancy stuff you have or the number of posts you have, it's what you say in the posts that count. At least in my opinion.

We were all new at one time--and didn't know what the heck we were doing. I just think some people tend to forget that.

EDIT: By the way, I sure hope I didn't offend anyone by saying the above about sigs/avs. I think some of them on PPT are just incredible. I just don't use them to judge anyone, that's all.

It's not just the lack of siggy/av either:
Whether it's on the neopet boards or even in here there ARE some people that seem to put a lot of stock in account age or number of posts, I guess it's human nature :(
I have been a member here for quite a while although I do not have that many posts. (The reason behind my "lack" of posts? By the time I read the various threads, usually someone very articulate has already posted something along the lines of what I would've posted.)
That said, the newer members(that do not know me) may have a tendency to take my posts less seriously than someone like Jasujo's ScottNak's, Fidds or Morningstar's. It's a sad but true fact.

The reason I'm generally not bothered by that sort of attitude is because of the people that do know me here and it's those same people that made me feel part of this community when I was new. It was that sort of tolerance that keeps me here :)

I guess what I'm saying is take the time to get to know some of the newer people here (with or without avs/sigs), they too can be valuable members here :)

(and you cannot take the date under my av as my starting date here LOL........I have been coming to ppt as a member since long before that - in fact the talented Marissa made my sig/av on 10th August 2003 after I was a member for a while)

It's a shame that there isn't some way to identify how long we actually have been on PPT. There are many of us who remember the old PPT--and many who have been here a heck of a lot longer than me--including you, Gemma.

Some of us (points finger at self) just talk a whole heck of a lot more than others.

LOL Morningstar, you only talk more because you cannot help yourself from helping others (and a jolly fine job too!)...your posts are always well thought out even when something annoys you :P

suggestion: something for the mods to discuss....maybe someone could make a little icon like a ppt or an old smurf, that could be put in old ppt'ers av's similar to the gender icon *shrug*

 Ah, there have been times when I have written first and thought later. But, at the time it was very hard not to. Too many of my buttons being pressed.

But, hey, I love your idea--a little tiny smurf would be cool with our old start date underneath. Of course, it would have to be by the honor system. But, my guess is that almost everyone here would be truthful.

Sigh, the old days. I had just made PPT mafia. . .
