ummm, auctions are still ordered by time remaining, first 100 lots, you can all-but garuntee, have only a minute at best, it only slows the snipers down, anyone worth their weight in beans can pretty accuretly estimate the time left.
call it auction counting.

About cheating programs: if TNT do think they will stop programs by doing this, they're really dumb. Programmers don't try to calculate the time left, because they don't need to do that to kick their programs run. :P

I myself don't write cheating programs, but if I did, it would be easy for me to adapt the new system. I mean, all that TNT did is similar to what they did with rsing (buyers must click to a dumb picture at the end of transaction), but did it stop ab programs? I must say no.

Last thing to say, to improve things on Neopets, I think TNT should first off improve their brain.

actually sniping beats the actual purpose of auctioning... even in ebay they have system that prevented sniping

Since when? O_o I've been an Ebay sniper for many a year and nothing has ever happened to hinder me....

Ebay and the sellers LOVE snipers. It increases their profits at the last second.

Unlike neopets where people often put things up for too cheap, most Ebay sellers know *exactly* the value of selling. *blinks*

ebay sells a progra to facilitate it!
activate it on an auction and itll bid up to your maximum bid, at a small increment over the last bid.

Yeah, I wouldn't complain about this new feature, it's just something we need to get used to :/ Remember when the chatboards got revamped? Everyone went nuts wanting to get the old one back. Did we? Most ppl learned to love avatars even... So get over it :/

Yeah. I'm an ebay sniper :D

Dunno what my opinion is on this. I guess nothing. Since I only sniped them auctions a few times. The only times I really use aution on neo is for buying something over the max TP points on a NF only auction.

Hope they modify it anyway to make both sides happy.

Well. To be honest. Thats a good tool. But knowing the time it's going to end and then bidding your max is better.
But you're right. They do encourage it and it can make a higher price.

Actually, ebay gives users the option of proxy bidding and neo doesn't. That's what makes it completely different. If neo wanted to stop sniping, offer proxy bidding.

I don't think sniping needs to be stopped... neo just needs to figure out how to get outside programs from being able to function with the site.

If people can put the max amount they would pay for an item, there really can't be a complaint about sniping. Say there was a grey p/b in auctions for 60k. You could put in that you would pay 1.8m max for it, and it would be bid automatically for you. The only way you wouldn't win is if someone came along willing to pay more. The only way it would be sniped is if nobody put a decent (near market value) proxy bid on it. Most of the time snipers would simply be wasting their time because they would always be outbid by the proxy.

The proxy would lift prices closer to market value and would make it so the snipers (even if they get the item) wouldn't make *nearly* as much np.

for neopets, it would be hard to code, since you have to substract neopoints and such, and not mentioning theres more than one user that could bid using max bid at one auction, while in real world you dont have to do that :P

I know, I was just sayin'... Neo and ebay are two very different beasts. ^.^

And if 2 people put the same max bid, the person that put in that bid first gets it. :)

Well, this all just makes me look at everyone on the neoboards and think. They complain about snipers,so neo goes and says "Gee,let's stop snipers, and make it harder for everyone, making it more fun if you win!"And when they release a good idea, everyone freaks. They all asked for a way to stop snipers, and they got it.Just like the phrase be careful what you wish for, everyone is now angry at neo and neo is upset about how they tried to help us out,and what we do is spit in their face!

What I really object to now is not knowing how long is left in auctions that have more than say 1 hour to go. I do not usually like to tie up NPs. I might tie up for a few hours by bidding before going out or something but I never bid on 48 hour auctions. I wonder what is meant by Long v. Medium for example or extremely Long. This makes me much more reluctant to bid at all because I have no idea how long the money is tied up.

As far as stopping sniping, I think that is just stupid. There is nothing wrong with sniping. I'm not good at it, but that is the only issue. The best thing to discourage sniping if they want to do so is to institute a proxy bid system.

I think you're failing to see something here- They stopped snipers, but at the expense of practicality. Like neopetsmom said- Nobody wants to bid on a an auction that takes forever! How long is "Long"? How long is "Medium"? It's impossible to tell! So people will not know whether or not they are wasting their time by bidding on items.
