Supply and demand is all well and good, but not when it comes to avatar inflation. I mean, I can understand rising prices for Faerie, which is low supply and high demand (due to really cool recent pets), but half a million for an orange paint brush? Please. And no one's saying paint brushes have to be cheap -- just that a fixed price would be a good idea. Having the Darigan and Royal PBs on sale in the Hidden Tower for a set price doesn't make them "cheap," right?

Demand isn't always for the items orinigal purchase. Just becuase orange paint brushes are intended to make your pets orange, and hence htey'd have a relatively low market value, they give you an avatar which causes inflation. People don't want it becuase it's orange, they want it for the avatar.

I know; that's what I'm saying. That's unfair.

Faerie Paint Brush: High price because there are some really nice faerie pets. This makes sense. You want a really nice pet, you gotta shell out.

Orange Paint Brush: High price because of a stupid avatar. People who want a (rather basic) orange pet can't afford one because of the avatar collectors. You shouldn't have to shell out a half mil just because you want your kougra to look more like a tiger.

I don't think a shop with a set PB price would devalue painted pets much at all. Just make the price on PBs like faerie, maraquan, grey and pirate very similar to what they're now going for on the post. Set the more basic colors at lower prices. People would still have to work hard and shell out more for an awesome pet -- they just wouldn't have to pay as much for a colorfill.

Well I'm not to keen on being able to buy p/b's in the Hidden Tower. Mainly because they'd loose their "rareness". Back in the day p/b's seemed to be easier to find in RE's. Now it's impossible. If we could find them more often that would be awesome in my oppinion.

I think when inflation is due to avatars rather than demand for the colour on its own merits then there should be more of that paint brush released. I think it's unfair that everyone is punished while only some people collect avatars. Some people genuinely want a grey pet without wanting the avatar, or an island quiggle for the pet itself and so forth.

I don't think paintbrushes being sold in a hidden tower type shop would devalue the paint brushes at all though. I own several faerie pets and if they were put into the hidden tower at far less than what I paid for them I would be happy. If one of my faerie pets ever gets boochied it's now easier to replace, if another faerie pet comes out then its cheaper for me to get and more people can now get the pets I already have if it is their dream pet. All sounds good to me, I still know how much effort went into my pets so they certainly aren't devalued. That money is spent and gone, yup. Putting them in a shop or heavily increasing the REs, either way is good for me.

I do think faerie should never have been retired - there was no point. Stone and glass can be retired sure as the colours are actually retired, they no longer exist. But new faerie pets are coming up all the time and it perhaps won't be long until that pb is pushing 2mill - so why on earth is it retired?

Pb inflation in particular agitates me because 1) so many people play neopets to paint their pets a nice colour or a colour that matches their personality and many paintbrushes are now out of reach for players who for one reason or another can't make money quickly - it isn't just about lack of effort, if you have a slow connection, if your net time is restriced by parents if you are young, or if you don't actually enjoy the ways in which money making is possible etc then you are not going to spend what time you have on the site getting stressed out rather than having fun 2) tnt have said they were looking into ways in which to help stop paint brush inflation but time and time again they release painted pet avs, 3) nothing will ever be done about it because for every person that would genuinely like something to be done there is another who goes on about how their own pets would be devalued.

BD items are a whole different ballgame - you can only really do well there if your whole neopets playing is dedicated to the battledome, and you need to be able to make a lot of money as the items just go up and up in price. Even from the HT they cost a bomb for a half decent set. I can't restock due to net speed so to get a set including say a hypno helmet, ghostkershield etc would probably take me years to save up for :/ I really don't know how they could reduce inflation there.

Arf, I wrote a lot - can you tell I don't like inflation? ;)

Do PBs disappear after you use them? I've never had the oppurtunity to use one. If they didn't disappear after they were used... would that deflate the price? Because those who wanted the avvie could get it, those who simply want to customize their pets can get that, and everyone would be happy.

Personally, I've tried to save... but I always buy completed treasure maps (the original ones) in hopes that I'll get a rare item that I want. So far, I've only gotten a Flowper, and I sold it to get my bank account back into the six digits.

Sadly, they do disappear.
And surely if they didn't, they wouldn't be worth as much as they are now.

But since there's no hope of that happening, we just have to continue on saving and hoping that maybe someday we'll catch a good deal. :P

I would like to see another way to paint your pets, bar PB's, MP/TP's and the Lab Ray - something affordable at least...something with a capped NP limit attached. Something that wouldn't cost a million NP because people can price it that way due to its "retired" status.

A Food item, maybe? A set of food items?

I don't know. I'm thinking perhaps if Neopets does away with Codestones for the Training School and make it NP-based that maybe Codestones could be linked to some kind of painting ability?

Alright, I really have to stop thinking; my ideas are not making any sense today >>;

Ah yes R-E-T-I-R-E-D. I luv that word.

I'm not sure about those stuff but if i am not wrong those retired Maraqua items are worth tons. I got some of the utility fishes that were all retired after Maraqua got destroyed. Those fishes are worth as low as 20k to few millions. :D

Inflation of the faerie paint brush and other things made me lose interest in neopets, period.

Buying items to change your pet color or decent battle equipment, etc, is too much like the prizes in a carnival or places like Chuckey Cheeze.

You either have to be there playing almost 24/7 or wait 3+ years saving up tickets just to win the decent prizes.

And considering usually the games in those situations only reward you with one or two tickets per play, it is rather inefficiant if you really want any of the good items, that are usually priced in the thousands of ticket points.

You're better off just buying the same item at Walmart or some place. Much cheaper and less hassle.

That's how I think of neopets right now. Once I realized that is how neopets runs, it sucked the fun out of it for me.

I rather not waste my time poking around at a carnival, when I can find other places that I can have a slightly more tangible reward.

Some of my school gallery items are well into the millions. Baabackpacks, MSPP Items (Pen and Backpack at this point)... it's frustrating for me since I've never once in my life on Neopia ever had a million neopoints. And trust me, it's not for lack of trying.

I like the analogy :)
